A new alliance has been created.? "This is a sad day..." VIDEO
US Senator Bernie Sanders accused President Donald Trump and his allies of siding with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sanders warned through the X social network that such an alliance threatens democratic values and international alliances.
"Trump and his American oligarchs are now openly aligning themselves with Putin and his Russian oligarchs," Sanders said, adding: "This alliance between Putin and Trump means abandoning our allies, supporting authoritarianism, and undermining our democratic tradition."
"Trump sided with one of the world's most brutal dictators, threatened Ukraine's independence, and abandoned our decades-long European allies," Sanders said.
"This is a sad day in American history," he added.
The dispute between Trump and Zelensky
The comment by Sanders, one of the most prominent Democratic progressive politicians, came after Trump harshly criticized his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him a "dictator without elections."
- "Demolition" of Zelensky, part 3
- A radical proposal: We, heavy weapons and these 10 European countries
- Trump "blew up" Zelensky, literally
- Drama, chaos and hopelessness: They are done
"Dictator without election Zelensky better hurry or he will have nothing left of the country. In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia, something everyone admits only the Trump administration can do," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
Zelensky then told Trump he was caught in Russia's "space of disinformation," saying he hoped Trump's team would better understand "the truth about Ukraine."
Then he received another reply from the American president who called him a "dictator" again, with the message that "the cards for ending the war in Ukraine are held by Russia, which has conquered a lot of territory."
