The report was first published by the TV channel Al Mayadeen, citing local sources, and was later confirmed by other media outlets.

The attack took place in Fars Province, and according to the same sources, among the victims were children who were in the hall at the time of the strike. Initial reports mentioned more than 15 deaths, but the number of victims was later revised upward.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) also responded, expressing deep concern and condemning the loss of young athletes.

In a statement, the FIVB said it was “shocked and extremely concerned by reports that several young female volleyball players in Iran lost their lives due to the worsening security situation in the Middle East and the wider region.”

“We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all those affected by this developing crisis,” the statement added.

It also noted that tens of thousands of members of the volleyball community in the region have been displaced and face an uncertain future.

FIVB has established a special task force to coordinate humanitarian assistance in real time and ensure the safety of players, coaches, staff, and volunteers in the affected area, in cooperation with governments, NGOs, and other relevant organizations.

Finally, the world volleyball body emphasized its strong belief in the importance of cooperation, dialogue, peace, and solidarity, calling on the international community to contribute to de-escalation and the pursuit of a peaceful resolution.
