Serbia sends Protest Note to Croatia; Strong reaction over alleged interference in electoral process
Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to what it described as the most blatant form of interference in the electoral process and increasingly frequent biased reporting in Croatia.
Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a protest note to Croatia over what it described as the most blatant form of interference in Serbia’s electoral process, as well as increasingly frequent biased reporting on the country’s domestic political situation, media outlets have learned.
According to reports, Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its protest over actions it considers unacceptable foreign interference in the country’s domestic political affairs and electoral process.
The protest note specifically addresses media coverage in Croatia of political developments in Serbia, which the Serbian side describes as increasingly frequent and biased.
Serbia says interference in the electoral process is unacceptable
The document emphasizes that the Republic of Serbia considers any attempt by foreign actors to influence its domestic political processes unacceptable.
This includes, according to the note, both direct and indirect involvement in electoral activities and political competition during the election campaign.
Particular concern over negative portrayals
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also points to what it describes as the increasingly frequent presentation of Serbia’s domestic political situation through one-sided and strongly negative interpretations.
Particular concern is expressed over narratives linking political developments in Serbia to alleged threats to regional stability.
The Republic of Serbia maintains that such an approach does not contribute to mutual trust, good-neighbourly relations, or constructive dialogue between the two countries.
Through the protest note, Serbia has thus expressed its opposition to attempts at external interference in its electoral process, while highlighting the need for a more responsible approach to reporting on the country’s domestic political affairs.
