Moscow and Kyiv confirm: Ceasefire comes into effect
Russian and Ukrainian forces have ceased fire in a designated area around Oleshky, in the Kherson region, to facilitate a humanitarian operation, officials from both countries announced today.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the ceasefire came into effect on October 27 at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time, while Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated that the ceasefire regime began at 3:00 a.m. Kyiv time.
Lubinets said that the Ukrainian side was honoring the agreements reached, which are being implemented as part of a humanitarian mission involving Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, with the mediation and coordination of US First Lady Melania Trump, Ukrinform reported.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov announced the ceasefire last Friday, and Ukraine supported the initiative.
Since then, units of Russia’s Dnieper Group of Forces have been conducting engineering reconnaissance and clearing explosive devices and booby traps from the main access routes to Oleshky.
More than 300 such devices have been neutralized over the past week.
Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova said the operation’s main objectives were to deliver food, medicine, and other essential supplies, as well as to evacuate residents who voluntarily choose to leave the city.
Oleshky is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, opposite Kherson, which is under the control of Ukrainian forces.
Volodymyr Saldo, governor of the Kherson region, accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately creating a severe humanitarian crisis by attacking energy and communications infrastructure.
