He added that the European Commission continuously assesses whether the relevant conditions for support under European Union financial instruments are being met.
“This is part of the normal implementation of these instruments and applies throughout the entire process, including the stage of each payment request under the Growth Plan. Assessments are ongoing,” Markus Lammert said.
When asked by journalists whether the disbursement of funds to Serbia from pre-accession funds (IPA) would be suspended, he reiterated that “nothing has changed.”
“We have repeated this several times today—we are constantly assessing and monitoring; it is all part of the process,” Lammert said.
He emphasized that the Commission’s ongoing evaluations include each payment request phase under the Growth Plan.
“We have already expressed concern over the recent adoption of judicial laws in Serbia, and we now expect Serbia to fully implement the urgent opinion of the Venice Commission on these laws, and we are closely monitoring the next steps. At the same time, we continue to support Serbia on its path toward the European Union and expect progress in key reforms, particularly in the areas of the rule of law, fundamental rights, and democratic principles,” the spokesperson said.
Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that the Commission is still considering whether to disburse funds to Belgrade under the Growth Plan.
