A new procedure has been launched for the nomination of national minority candidates for REM members
Members of the parliamentary Committee on Culture and Information today adopted a decision to initiate a renewed procedure for the nomination of candidates for the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media from the national minority category.
At the committee session, the text of the public call for nominations by the authorized proposers of national minority councils was also established.
Yesterday, members of the National Assembly of Serbia elected eight out of nine members of the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM).
The Assembly did not elect the ninth member of the REM Council, the candidate representing national minorities. The proposed candidates were Muhedin Fijuljanin and Ljumturije Ameti, but neither received the required minimum of 126 votes.
Previously, SVM deputies had appealed to coalition partners not to vote for candidates from this group, stating that the candidate of the Hungarian national minority was unfairly excluded from the race.
For a two-year term, the following candidates were elected to the REM Council: Milan Petković, representing accredited universities in Serbia; Miloš Garić, representing electronic media; and Stevica Smederevac, representing the Ombudsman, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, and the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection.
For the next four years, members of the REM Council will include Rodoljub Šabić, representing associations protecting freedom of expression, and Mileva Malešić, representing journalistic associations.
For the next six years, members will include Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, representing film, stage, and dramatic artists; Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, representing associations for child protection; and Snežana Miljković, representing churches and religious communities.
