Members of the Serbian Parliament today continued the session to discuss the list of candidates for the election of members of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) Council.

The session was attended by 106 members of parliament.

The election of members of the REM Council, proposed by the Committee on Culture and Information, was added to Wednesday’s agenda as the ninth item under an urgent procedure.

Before the MPs is a list of 18 candidates from which they are to elect nine members of the REM Council, one from each category of proposers. The representative of the proposers, MP Nataša Jovanović, expressed confidence that Serbia will have a highly qualified REM Council, noting that during the Committee on Culture and Information’s session, the candidates demonstrated through their biographies that they are excellent choices.

The agreed list of candidates for the REM Council includes:

– Candidates from independent institutions: Stevica Smederevac and Gordana Predić

– Candidates from churches and religious communities: Snežana Miljković and Mevlud Dudić

– Candidates from electronic media publishers: Miloš Garić and Jovana Vitez

– Candidates from associations for the protection of children: Dušan Aleksić and Dubravka Valić Nedeljković

– Candidates from journalists’ associations: Djordje Vlajić and Mileva Malešić

– Candidates from universities: Milan Petković and Vanja Šibalić

– Candidates from associations dealing with freedom of expression: Rodoljub Šabić and Antonela Riha

– Candidates from national minority councils: Muhedin Fijuljanin and Ljumturije Ameti

– Candidates from associations of composers and film, stage, and dramatic artists: Ira Prodanov Krajišnik and Mladen Matičević.
