Djoken serves as executive director of UNESCO Center for Peace and chairman of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations.
The award was created to mark July 10, the birthday of Serbian-American engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla.
Djoken, a respected global activist for peace and human rights, received the award from Matica Srpska President Dragan Stanić, at a ceremony held at this oldest scientific institution in Serbia, which Tesla also had connections with.
Djoken thanked for the award and stressed he was honored to be linked to the great scientist in such a way, adding that he respected Tesla very much.
"If we follow Tesla's work and vision, we will create a better place out of this world," he noted.
Tesla Global Forum Director Aleksandar Protić said that Djoken was, among other things, a great advocate of Tesla's life and work.
The award fits the general concept that it should be given to those who are recognized worldwide, Protić remarked, adding that the last year's recipient was great scientist and Nobel Prize winner Robert Klark.
An international meeting entitled Tesla Global Forum will be held on Mt. Fruška Gora from July 10 to 13 to mark Tesla's birthday and it will bring together some of the best students from Serbia and the world.
A part of the program for the event will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.
