However, the Russians are having none of that and are about to take Allepo thus completely cutting that idea to shreds. Meanwhile the Iranians can at any time block/mine the Straits of Hormuz and all oil/gas stops from flowing to the west.

That is why Syria is in flames. If it was not so serious and tragic with all this death and displacement it would be a comedy of US errors.
