Insulting Serbs (especially Serbs outside Serbia proper) is "punching down" as they say in the west. It should never be tolerated. It's good to put everyone on notice. Journalists in Serbia should always be 100% on the side of Serbs. Serbs have suffered far greater and far long than anyone else in the Balkans. Journalists making jokes about Serbs is just putting salt in the wounds. It's a form of sadism.

So cancel free speech to make a few insecure Serbs feel better? Your comments basically say that Serbs are immature, unprepared/not willing to deal with the past and still suffering a seirous inferiorty and vicitm complex.

This proves Serbs are no better than ISIS.
(Avni, 20 June 2016 23:19)

No, if this were ISIS, he'd already be killed. Just like what would happen if he were Albanian and made fun of Albanians. Before he was Borat, Sasha Baron Cohen's character was Kristo, and Albanian journalist. He had to change it to Borat a Kazakh because Albanians threatened to kill him and his family if he didn't stop insulting Albanians.

No wonder so many Albanians join ISIS. Similar mentality.

But the article doesn't mention the ridiculous things this host actually said. Insulting to say the least but also racist.
(Ari Gold, 20 June 2016 11:43)

The article does not mention it because it does not matter what was said. No person deserves to die for what that person says, regardless of how insulting or offensive what that person said is.
(icj1, 21 June 2016 01:34)

I am witnessing double standards right here. If it was Seselj saying something offensive then he should be hung according to some Albanians but for those same people, this B92 journalist should be awarded. icj1, does your statement apply to Seselj also?
(William UK, 21 June 2016 10:31)

Of course it applies to Seselj, as well. Not sure why you'd exclude him, unless you don't consider him a "person"!

I said "no person deserves to die for what that person says". I did not say "no person, excluding Seselj".

It sounds to me like this journalist was spreading hate. Maybe B92 should report exactly what he said so we are better informed?

I decided to strongly advocate for the right to a sane satire, instead, when I first discovered Stupcat, a group of Kosovo Albanian comic actors. I've never heard any of our dozens of politicians or pundits criticize our society the way these guys do, and this is why I'm proud these guys are Albanian. Instead of fighting back like 'delicate flowers' who can't endure any kind of humor because it might hurt our dudes' 'patriotic' feelings, we should all strongly support them. THEY DON'T NEED OUR VOTES, folks, they don't need our daily flags of hypocrisy and false patriotism and it's just fine as long as we have some people able to do that.

Seriously ari!? I alwasy thought our saving grace as a race, see what I did there, is our biting sense of humour. If you don't like the show, don't watch! BTW, being privy to daily ratings nation wide, the show scores well in all parts of Serbia... Even Sumadija where a majority of my peeps live...

I said that I don't condone death threats, nor am I advocating that his right of free speech be taken away. I am just pointing out that such hate speech should be condemned by others expressing their right of free speech.

Ari

You are condoning threats in what you say.

Has the journalist broken the law?

Free speech is a right to be defended.

Threats of violence are a crime.

But the article doesn't mention the ridiculous things this host actually said. Insulting to say the least but also racist. In Beograd, the hip, cool, trendy thing is to be anti-Serbian. It's a sickness that has long been prevalent within a small group of the country's elite. I don't condone death threats, but the host deserves to be condemned for his disgusting behavior.
