Why join NATO?
So it doesn't attack you?
There is no compelling reason to join.
No one can attack you, you are encircled.

Why spend money on military?
Spend the "peace dividend" on infrastructure.
Spend it on getting a lead in new industries.
Spend it on lower taxes to get more companies to re-locate.

Why send your kids to go fight in foreign wars?

By being in NATO you are one small voice at a table.
By not being in NATO, you are a bigger voice at that same table.

If you want to do something make yourself useful on the coming global war against radical Islamic terrorism.

Forget NATO.

This would be funny if it wasn't so sad. It is a bit like a rapist protecting a victim only if the victim co-operates. If not, the victim gets shared with other rapists.

Vucic this passed week has been meeting Sewer on numerous occasions - US acting in overdrive to influence Serbian leader. Last Friday (Djurdjevdan) Sewer & the disgraced former CIA head Petreaus met with Vucic.

“ most of us have never even been to Russia.” You naivety is just breathtaking to say the least. Why do you bother to post such ridiculous statements?
The EU wants cheap labour not rich countries. If they wanted that tehn a Marshall-style plan would have been installed after the fall of communism.
Of course neutrality means more money. Serbia is currently getting more investment than any other state in that entire region.
Phillip Moris recently left Croatia and opened brand new facilities in Vranje which means jobs for locals. Why did they do this? It’s a door to Russia.
Fiat wants to sell in Russia so where do they set up their facilities? Serbia. The Chinese are starting to invest in Serbia
Even Croatia has admitted that Serbian economy has surpassed them and most of this is due to Russia. The Russians vetoed that idiotic resolution about genocide. I could go on and on.

"Serwer, a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and an expert on the Balkans"

That last part is a bit of a stretch. Serwer is a State Department official, which means that his opinions remain severely limited and lobotomized. His criticism of Russian foreign policy in Europe has also been charmingly comical over the years and frequently engages in Twitter battles with those whose opinions on the Balkans differ from his. He may be right about Vucic and the EU, but for the wrong reasons in juxtaposing it with Russia. In the end, he's a very mediocre "expert".

In true Orwellian double speak, the former VP of the United States Institute of Peace and State Dept minister-councilor was an antagonist to a multi-ethnic Yugoslavia.
We have expressed our comments about the "peace" he and the US have sowed in places such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan etc. B92 have censored my comments.

The geographic position of Serbia necessitates it walk a middle ground between two larger players.

Was the same 800 years ago and is the same now.

There's also more money in it.

How so? I'd say we are SURROUNDED by NATO and most of us have never even been to Russia.
The only reason why we are pro-Russian is because we blame NATO and not Milosevic for the bombing.

How is there more money in being neutral? Our neutrality is the only reason why neither side fully assists us because they see us as unreliable.

I give it 10 years before this country finally comes to its senses and joins NATO. Just remember that 15 years ago most of the population was anti-EU.

These Americans are getting more and more deluded not by the week but hour.
Academia in the US is no longer a profession of learning and discovery but the more skilled you are at attracting funding the sooner you attain professorship and Daniel Serwer is a great example of that. He even looks like a clown.
The reality is if Moscow did not like Vucic then he would not be there today just ask the timeline that Milo Djukanovic plans to join NATO. He opened his mouth then demonstrations began and you don’t even hear a peep out of him on that issue.

Moscow sees Vucic as unreliable because he refused to express his support for the Ukrainian separatists and doesn't want to cheaply sell Serbian companies to Russia.
This is the proof that we can't balance between Russia and the West. We have to pick a side. We are surrounded by NATO countries, so it is only natural that we become one.

Open your eyes, people. Russians are not our friends. All their neighbors had a chance to see that. Why won't you listen to them?
