Lenny you have to have money to buy Gripen. No one give it for free, but Krovatia no have money that is why Oreskovic has to sell, sell everything at fire sale prices to try and fill budget holes.
(sj, 23 March 2016 09:43) Sweden has offered the Gripens for Croatia with a 100% + offset. Also if we buy a squadron C & D version of the Gripens. Sweden will throw in a Squadron of A & B versions for us. Also other lucrative deals that will benefit both of our armed forces. Swedish tourism is increasing to Croatia by 17% annually and even more flights added to more Croatian cities. That is one way we can pay. Also Croatian billionaires could finances as gift fore their homeland.

It is time for Croatia to get rid of the old MiG's. Buy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62Lulo5D8oQ Gripen fighters good fighter and lowest per hour cost. They can land on ordinary roads and take off from a short road. Turn around in less then 30 minutes fueled and armed close to the theater of action. Serbia that stole ex Yugo republic 100's of military aircraft has run them all in to the ground.

How does that old saying go? A fool and his money are easily parted. Looks like the Ukrainian brothers part lots of money from a bunch of fools.

Typical European country which expects its ‘low ranking’ solders to give up their lives to protect the nation, while those in power are only interested in stealing tax payers money, even if it means risking the security of the nation and the lives of its solders.

Which bright spark thought that these colours go well on a fighter jet?
Croatians are so full of themselves that they have this design on everything. How pathetic they must be to have the need to keep telling the world that it's them. So proud of this symbol they are that they are oblivious to the fact that they committed some horrible crimes under that symbol.

Is this photo showing the jet in tablecloth mode?
(MikeD, 22 March 2016 20:56)

This is the Croatian version of "stealth" mode.

I think the Mig 21 is an excellent plane, and continues to serve all over the globe. It can fly as fast as mach 2, It is a workhorse, it is cheap to operate, it is simple to maintain, and it is easy to upgrade with weapon systems and sensors. The Syrian Arab Army has had great success using it against ISIS. China kept making them until 2013 in the form of Chengdu J-7. With modern avionics and BVR armament it is a very dangerous weapons platform. Just because something isn't new, and just because something is old does not mean it is worthless. That kind of thinking leads people to buy new garbage.

Let's hope the Croatian "Air Force" does not accidently hit a Dutch passenger airline and kill everyone on board like the Ukrainians did near Donetsk.

'Probably the most ridiculous livery ever devised for what looks like an ancient MIG warplane. Is this jalopy supposed to strike fear in the hearts of Croatia's enemies?'

Its not a combat colour scheme, genius. And its certainly more fearful than a Mig 29 without batteries.

'The HV should stick to what they're best at; Killing old folk in their homes and burning their villages down.'

Fair to say every military in the region has way too much experience in this 'speciality'

say it ain't so. say that the fledgling honourable ukrainian project didn't swindle its european ally. say it ain't so. say that there's a mistake. it simply can't be the ukrainian government. russia must have switched those planes while no one was looking (but ofcourse there is us satellite imagery that russia conclusively switched those planes out -- but it won't be made available) it can't be the new modern ukraine, following the law and order given to it by the gracious european democracies, but the glorious american democracy. all those billions in aid are certainly being used appropriately to help the citizens of ukraine, to reboot their industries -- such as their aerospace. why would they swindle croatia. they're all good europeans, with the same values, and same living standards and outlooks on life.
