Turkey will make EU completely lopsided. The huge population, the large part of the industry being in agriculture and building. Under-developed infrastructure. Under-developed education system. EU bordering Syria, Iraq, Iran. Having Kosovo is OK, now instead of Kosovo let's deal with Cyprus.

All this is precisely what EU ''needs'' long-term.

In addition, that the most democratic and reasonable institution in Turkey is their military and dealing with a Turkish junta was always easier than with so-called ''democratic'' government.

No, thanks, not in the next 100 years.

Let's deal with Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Moldova instead. Much easier (after all ex-YU countries).

It's a fantastic bit of EU strategy, this migrant deal with Erdogan,by turning a blind eye on his crack down on Kurds, Journalists and his close relationship with ISIS / Daesh. Instead now of being subjected to millions of economic migrants from all corners of the world, Europe will instead be subjected to millions of economic migrants from Turkey! The bonus being ,many of them will be Erdogan voters as well!.Just what Europe needs, a little bit more of rural Anatolia!

On his current progress, he is not suitable for the EU.

Hopefully Turkey will drop the religious part from its governance and go back to the tolerant secular traditions established by Ataturk.

Hopefully too, Turkey will go back to a free press.

Turkey does not show the stability needed to be in the EU, and until it does, there should be no expectations. After that we will see what can be done.

There is also the need for a peaceful solution for the Kurds. The borders of Turkey are not so sacrosanct that they are worth the lives and the struggles, and the EU should not take on another set of aggressive ethnic divisions.

Finally, if there are to be mass exoduses from counties when they join the EU, particularly a country the size of Turkey, this is bad for the EU. Turkey needs to have an economy of its own that can give good lives to its citizens. This can be done via trade deals and alignments - actually having to join the EU is not a prerequisite.
