Serbian Orthodox Patriarch Irinej has told the <em>Sputnik</em> agency that if Serbia's interests clash with those of "Europe and America" - Russia "will come first."

I am not Orthodox, but very much love your faith, and find it crucial to understanding my own faith in the Western church. That admitted, I find the Serbian Patriarch's comments to sadly resonate of ethophyletism. It would seem to me that a past shared genetics and a similar faith should not be as important as discerning who or what is morally right in the present time.

Serbia wanted to use the "brotherhood and unity" to dominate the other Yugoslav nations but ended up making difficult the life of the Serbs and other Yugoslav nations. So at some point the the latter decided that they did not want to live together with Serbia any longer.
*** The non-Serb "nations" of the former Yugoslavia were terribly incompetent for thousands of years that they were unable to either distinguish themselves or even create countries. So they were brought into a Serb run Yugo (the second country in Europe to establish a Democratic constitution). They did this willingly because they had no other choice. They always knew they could never run things because they were always a minority (Serbs were a plurality). And as soon as they entered, Serbs began to realize their "brothers" were using entry as a tool to eventually form their own nations (but not before they could rip away everything they possibly could and expand their own borders which were smaller when they entered, but larger when they left). The first such proof of this was Croatia in 1939.

Why would they do that? They were needed in BIH to defend their homes. There were plenty of Chetniks in BIH. Pity there were more Serb Partizans there.

Of course, Ukraine and Russia are also religiously and ethnically on the same page. That did not prevent Russia though from dismembering Ukraine... I guess that is the same fate that Miroslav wishes for Serbia!

Ukraine broke away from the Russian church and have established some creation only recognized by the Vatican. They don't consider themselves belonging to the same church.

Still with that myth, huh peggy. Half of the partisans were croats, one of the reasond why so many croats joined partisans was due to crimes commited by Pannwitz cossacks and serbian chetniks against all non-orthodox christians. It was so bad, that Pannwitz himself had to give order that any cossack butchering an unarmed civilian catholic croat would be shot. And a lot of serbian partisans were former chetniks or pro chetnik. it is more like had germans and italians not forced Pavelic to let these 'holy orthodox christians' commit those crimes against croats, than serbs would not exist today. Pannwitz cossacks were from Kuban and Donbas, so don't even trh to pin their crimes on ethnic Ukrainians.

If you want to know who the real evil was back then and even Germans were shocked at the horrors just take a look at Jasenovac. Ustashi were the only ones who had concentration camps for children and your priests and nuns committed horrible crimes against innocent women and children with their own hands. Until then, there were not many Croatian partizans.

Tito was a Communist and his only concern was to yield power, he was not nationalist in any way towards Serbs, Croats or Slovenes for that matter. That is why we purged and put to trial rightly or wrongly Serb and Croat nationalists and the UDBA was very active in suppressing nationalism including re-writing history to suite the state. The is very similar to what the Soviet Communists did during the Russian revolution in 1917.
TITO also was very accommodating in creating new nationalities such as "Macedonians", "Muslims" and autonomous states of Kosovo and Vojvodina in order to to suppress Serbian nationalism and to a lesser extent Croatian nationalism , the largest populations in the former Yugoslavia. Tito also used these policies to encourage Albania and Bulgaria to eventually join the Yugoslav federation.
Winston Churchill betrayed Draza Milhailovic who was the rightful representative of King Peter II in exile in London. Further, Prince Pavle was treated harshly by the English state who considered him a traitor. Prince Pavle was close to signing an non-aggression pact with Adolf Hitler that would have maintained Yugoslavia sovereignty and would have avoided the horrors of Nazi Germany, Croatia, Hungary, Albania and Bulgaria occupations.

I beg to differ. If Serbs didn't join the partizans but instead joined the Chetniks they would have a good chance of winning.
You see many Serbs fought other Serbs (Chetniks) which is a real tragedy. Brother against brother. Most partizans were Serbs. Not that many Croatians or Muslims joined so if all Serbs joined Chetniks and stopped killing their own they would have been far better off.

Serbia made bad choices with Milosevic, and I am sure is capable of marginalising itself in many other ways.
Personally I think that messages like this show a type of immaturity driven by a narrow self image for Serbia. I hope for better things for Serbia, and recently there have been moves to improve the view of Serbia in the world.

Not quite, even though Yugoslavia was not part of the Warsaw pact, Yugoslavia was the conduit between east and west which help prosper Yugoslavia. One example is the textile industry where the largest Company was based in Belgrade and NY made substantial contracts with Moscow for cotton among other textile commodities. Because of the cold war, Yugoslav companies were used a intermediaries to access the Soviet and Eastern Bloc Markets.
As well, Yugoslavia was part of the Soviet eastern block trading block or Comecon which allowed Yugoslavia the unique trading status between east and west.

Yes Yugoslavia had ammunition factories but many tings were also built and exported in the USSR.
It wasn't just Yugoslavia which imported that hardware but the west as well. I still have an old army petrol container built in the USSR and I live in Australia. You can still buy Yugoslav army surplus gas masks here in the Army Disposal shops. USSR tank T-72 plans from Russia were used to built an improved tank M-84A in Yugoslavia so you see boundaries were crossed everywhere. If actual hardware wasn't imported from USSR the blueprints were and ultimately improved in Yugoslavia.

And a lot of serbian partisans were former chetniks or pro chetnik. it is more like had germans and italians not forced Pavelic to let these 'holy orthodox christians' commit those crimes against croats, than serbs would not exist today. Pannwitz cossacks were from Kuban and Donbas, so don't even trh to pin their crimes on ethnic Ukrainians.

I am not Orthodox, but very much love your faith, and find it crucial to understanding my own faith in the Western church. That admitted, I find the Serbian Patriarch's comments to sadly resonate of ethophyletism. It would seem to me that a past shared genetics and a similar faith should not be as important as discerning who or what is morally right in the present time.

Not exactly. During the good old YU times, politicians in YU (which Serbia being a big part of) were wise enough to stay neutral and refused to be a member country of the Warsaw pact ruled and oppressed by the then Sovied Union, with Russia being major part of it. And these were the best times in YU, economically compared to other countries.

If that's the path that you think Serbia should take, walk down it.
Serbia made bad choices with Milosevic, and I am sure is capable of marginalising itself in many other ways.
Personally I think that messages like this show a type of immaturity driven by a narrow self image for Serbia. I hope for better things for Serbia, and recently there have been moves to improve the view of Serbia in the world.

I beg to differ. If Serbs didn't join the partizans but instead joined the Chetniks they would have a good chance of winning.
You see many Serbs fought other Serbs (Chetniks) which is a real tragedy. Brother against brother. Most partizans were Serbs. Not that many Croatians or Muslims joined so if all Serbs joined Chetniks and stopped killing their own they would have been far better off.

That's exactly how it was. Many people don't seem to realize that.
Serbs were silly enough to join Tito's partizans because then as now most still believe in brotherhood and unity. That is a very nice idea but that's all it can ever be because Croatians, Bosniaks and Albanians don't believe in that. Yes, if we could all live together in peace and respect for one another I agree that would be the best but Serbs have to finally understand that that cannot happen and turn to people who truly love us.
Politics is a different game and I understand that politicians have to do unsavoury things and form other partnerships but as people we can never allow anyone else to come before Russia.

Not quite, even though Yugoslavia was not part of the Warsaw pact, Yugoslavia was the conduit between east and west which help prosper Yugoslavia. One example is the textile industry where the largest Company was based in Belgrade and NY made substantial contracts with Moscow for cotton among other textile commodities. Because of the cold war, Yugoslav companies were used a intermediaries to access the Soviet and Eastern Bloc Markets.
As well, Yugoslavia was part of the Soviet eastern block trading block or Comecon which allowed Yugoslavia the unique trading status between east and west.

they would have been Genosided by the Croatias Uztasja regime,

Yes Yugoslavia had ammunition factories but many tings were also built and exported in the USSR.
It wasn't just Yugoslavia which imported that hardware but the west as well. I still have an old army petrol container built in the USSR and I live in Australia. You can still buy Yugoslav army surplus gas masks here in the Army Disposal shops. USSR tank T-72 plans from Russia were used to built an improved tank M-84A in Yugoslavia so you see boundaries were crossed everywhere. If actual hardware wasn't imported from USSR the blueprints were and ultimately improved in Yugoslavia.

RE: Brotherhood and Unity-You all have it wrong
Tito was a Communist and his only concern was to yield power, he was not nationalist in any way towards Serbs, Croats or Slovenes for that matter. That is why we purged and put to trial rightly or wrongly Serb and Croat nationalists and the UDBA was very active in suppressing nationalism including re-writing history to suite the state. The is very similar to what the Soviet Communists did during the Russian revolution in 1917.
TITO also was very accommodating in creating new nationalities such as "Macedonians", "Muslims" and autonomous states of Kosovo and Vojvodina in order to to suppress Serbian nationalism and to a lesser extent Croatian nationalism , the largest populations in the former Yugoslavia. Tito also used these policies to encourage Albania and Bulgaria to eventually join the Yugoslav federation.
Winston Churchill betrayed Draza Milhailovic who was the rightful representative of King Peter II in exile in London. Further, Prince Pavle was treated harshly by the English state who considered him a traitor. Prince Pavle was close to signing an non-aggression pact with Adolf Hitler that would have maintained Yugoslavia sovereignty and would have avoided the horrors of Nazi Germany, Croatia, Hungary, Albania and Bulgaria occupations.
