Factman: You make a number of valid points. Were I a Bosnian Serb I would be comforted by the fact that Russia is part of the PIC and Serbia a signatory to the Paris Accords and therefore any watering down of RS sovereignty, as opposed to strict interpretation of Dayton, is highly unlikely. Happy New Year to you and other contributors.

Ned,

Fair enough.

As an aside, we disagree on some matters (as you know), but we agree on far more. Your comments are always balanced and nuanced and I look forward to reading them and gaining another perspective to help me evolve my own opinions. That said, RS Serbs have to remain vigilant and ensure the sovereignty they do have is not watered down. The very nature of federalism seeks to strip away rights and consolidate into a central authority. This is OK in mature democracies if both parties are willing, but this is not what we have there. These were big killing fields only 70 years ago and a Truth and Reconciliation Commission never took place. On top of this add in the continued meddling of foreign governments and the already difficult (impossible?) matter of trying to keep 3 groups with 3 different religions balanced.

Bulgar of Ohrid; Two things. Firstly, any radicalisation that has occurred was as a result of the war in Bosnia not the reason for it.

Ned,

You are only partially correct... and not telling the ENTIRE story.

The genesis of the radicalisation you speak is a product of Ottoman conquest that was extinguished with the founding of Yugoslavia. A smaller part of it has a genesis in WW2

That radicalisation returned when Serbs woke up and found that they would be living under a Muslin majority government. It was indeed manipulated by nationalist politicians, but it didn't take very much to re-kindle it which shows that it was just under the surface all along.

The response of Serbs was predictable and the great minds of the West (Germany first, and the Vatican second) bear ultimate responsibility for setting up a conflict that was predictable.

Like asking a black man to go live on a plantation.

Why should Serbs trust Croats and Bosnian Muslims? Both of these nationalities are committed to breaking apart the Serbian people across different boundaries in order to diminish their demographic numbers.

Divide and Conquer.

Britain has far more chance of being a target (again) of home grown terror than Bosnia does and no-one is talking about our becoming part of a caliphate.

Unless people stop giving their votes to Labor and Liberal, it's only a matter of time.
Lebanon should serve as an example to all.

I'm sorry Peggy but I live among the people you are talking about and there is no evidence at all of a groundswell of opinion in favour of Bosnia changing its status from a democracy (of sorts) to anything else. No-one had 'sold' me on anything, I see and hear with my own eyes and ears and can work out the conclusion for myself. Izetbegovic does not want an Islamic state in BiH, this would serve no purpose at all for him and would hand control to the Reis. You are correct that a few people can cause a lot of trouble and they need to be rooted out. The operation that caught these people shows that the intelligence services are doing just that. Britain has far more chance of being a target (again) of home grown terror than Bosnia does and no-one is talking about our becoming part of a caliphate.

From Pope: "... at least the bosnians are arresting their terrorists and not treating them like heroes..."

Hey Pope, when will your beloved Croats start doing the same? Oh, I forgot, Croats have never done anything wrong. Silly me.

Bulgar of Ohrid

To Ned Tayloy..

Perhaps the Serbs were radicalised during WWII or before that with 500 years of Ottomam rule..

I'm not even Serb but I morally support their aspirations in Bosnia. Rep Srpska is a thorn in the wests aspiration to completely dominate the Balkans and remove all traces of Russian involvement.

Secondly, it is a tiny minority of Bosnian Muslims that has any leaning towards this type of activity
==============================
You are totally sold on this rubbish. The "tiny minority" cannot function without a wider support and help.
It was only a minority of Germans who were Nazis but look what the Nazis achieved. All it takes is Izetbegovic, "tiny minority" of people ready to act and everyone around them, especially the Jews or Serbs in this case are in danger.

Dear bulgar of orhid, serbs did not see anytging except their ambitions 24 years ago, they were tge extremists, people planning terrorist attacks today don't justify terrorist attacks 2 decades ago, at least the bosnians are arresting their terrorists and not treating them like heroes, unlike your folk

The Serbs saw this coming 24 years ago hence the war, the war they fought was for the sake of future generations, unfortunately the west with their own political and economic aspirations turned and twisted it into something else. Were the Serbs wrong? Just read this article and the decide

I think the names sounds genuine Bosnian, so they are not the leftovers of the I imported Mujahediin of the Bosnian war, correct? But they didn't only import islamist fighters, but islamist ideology as well.

Knowing the history of failed prosecutions in BiH I'll reserve judgement until such time as some actual evidence is forthcoming, although no doubt it won't be made public for security reasons. Announcements made with a big fanfare often result in very little happening and a very quiet sweeping under the carpet.
