"I say who cares! Serbia needs to do what is right for it - not for EU! Progress with the right reforms and crack on with it because its right for Serbia and its citizens!"

But even you must see that it's not a coincidence that those things that has to be done are the things mentioned in the EU SAA chapters, right?

Listen Johannes, we are doing our bit. We don't want to have to deal with these terrorists/drug dealers/ human traffickers, organ harvesters etc one moment longer than we have to.
But when are you going to use your influence to get them to at least do what they have already agreed. When will your unconditional support for these troublemakers end?

The EU is itself in a bind of change so its really not clear what Serbia (including it UN recognised southern province of Kosovo & Metohija) would be joining. It seems that there really is such a divergence within in the EU states and institutions that frankly many now questions its validity and credibility to provide any sense of cohesion let alone direction - hence the stop on enlargement.

What exactly is Serbia joining is a mystery to the EU itself! Perhaps that's why they create barriers and have not opened chapters - its the inner EU turmoil rather than anything to do with any candidate state. It will be unsurprising if this "opening chapters" slips another year.

Hahn also stressed it was "important that Serbia maintains the same level of dedication to further progress in normalization of relations with Kosovo."

Sure it is important. But it always takes two sides. And currently, the Kosovo government is openly obstructing the agreement they signed, to bolster the violent extremists of the self-terminators.
