The Syrian-Turkish border used to be all mined, but then Turkey faked at being friendly with Syria and Syria fell for it and they de-mined it.
This allowed mercenaries and terrorists from Turkey to go to war in Syria.
Turkey plays a big role in funneling terrorists into Syria, and there have been reports of Turkish officers captured and killed by the Syrian forces.
Turkey also supplied weapons to various terror groups.
The Balkan Muslims who went to fight in Syria and Iraq would fly to Turkey first and then cross the border to Syria.

Turkey is trying to protect itself from the blow back they caused.
