Before any African refugee is sent packing at least give them a feed of 'Sarma' and clothe them accordingly. That would be the right thing ! In addition......I ask the question, wouldn't it have been cheaper just to create a cross from 'Oak' and then paint it gold. Why spend ridiculous amounts on a cross that will eventually rust !

Money well spent I think, because if there's one thing the world needs, its more crosses

I wish I could donate some money for the cross, if anyone has information I would appreciate it. Serbia is doing a wonderful thing!!!

It is a common occurence in post-totalitarian countries to develop a number of unfortunate personality attributes. Chief amongst those is the politics of personal attack or slander of personality.
Many in the Balkans need to go back to Church/ Temple/ Mosque and learn the fundamental basics of civil society. Communism has made them godless. There should be more crosses put everywhere across Serbia because: Bog cuva Srbe.

Personally, if this cross project was financed by donations, and the locals don't mind looking at it every day, then fine, construct it. There are many religious symbols around the world, quite huge ones that are important landmarks, who's to say this one will not be also. IMHO, better to build a cross, than a rocket. Right, Mr. Putin?

With the Serbian Orthodox church suffering such damage in Kosovo, one might imagine that the Serbian Orthodox people might rather see money spent there. Such titanic displays are always suspect. The Eastern Orthodoxy has my respect for its more usual restrained spiritual displays.
I am an atheist and nothing could be more obvious to me that not all religions are alike.
Fairy tales are not completely without useful purpose. They can be used to enlighten instead of corrupt as Islam and Catholicism do, for example.

The money you spent the last time you ate in a fancy restaurant could have fed many a homeless person, or the amount of money Spent each day for fans to watch soccer games could actually put homelessness to an end in Europe, so should we condemn those actions too. There is always a "better" use for any money spent.
One of the goals of recognized religions is to bring religious pride and comfort to those of the faith among other notable charitable causes.
Building a cross on top of a mountain that so many people could see once a day that would remind them of who they are and what sacrifice was committed FOR them, could only make people remember to be better people themselves, to work in a charitable way and to give comfort to their fellow man.
So could that money be spent in a better way, that would be your opinion. But 100,000 euros would be gone in 1 day in trying to better the lives of citizens, but hopefully something like this would be working miracles for years or decades to come.
By the way, not Eastern Orthodox.

Atheist Dave you should learn more about the Serbian way of life. Cross is more then just a religious marking for Serbs. Its part of being Serbian. Its history and tradition. Something atheists cant accept or understand :)
Good for the town to do something like that. I really hope Serbia rebuilds its self as a country and joins the western block of countries that is EU. It will only help Serbia grow!
