Football can be a drama, tragedy and comedy at the same time.
Drama:
It took almost a year to finish reviewing what happened during the game. Decisions were made, annoulled, fines paid by both countries.
Tragedy:
We lost the chance to see a beautiful and emotional game. Football died that day and hooliganism won.
Comedy:
Obviously both countries have clowns for prime ministers who after making declarations against each other over TV stations, met with each other twice, then continued their "war" of words over the social media. We pay these guys.
Meanwhile, an Albanian moron who thought it would be "funny" to further get back at Serbian "bulls" shouting "Kill Albanians" by calming them down with "red flag" from a drone is busy giving interviews on how he smuggled the drone and himself into Serbia, how he was hiding in a church for 17 hours. I suggest him next time he sees a fire to go extinguish it with a bucket of gasoline.
This guy should have an honorable mention at least for Darwin Awards.
Unfortunately he is elevated to hero status by Albanians or considered some kind of "James Bond" by Serbs.
I think he is clown number 3.

"Zoran: The fine does not imply that the Albanians organised the drone flying anymore than the points deduction implies that Serbia organised the pitch invasion. It simply says "take responsibility for things done in your name", a well established principle in footballing circles."
(ned taylor, 10 July 2015 23:28)

Exactly that. The team are punished for the behavior of their fans, the Albanians for the drone with their 'flag', the Serbs for the Hooligans who threw object and invaded the pitch. So fines and point deductions are suited for that, together with the penalty to play the next few matches without audience interfering the game.

Absolutely a fair deciosion. On a simple fact, it was the Serbia's responsibility to take care of the event and the safety of the players. The argument of a "provocacija" by an "Albanian idiot" with a flag....is not an excuse for the crowed to show hatred against the Albanians and the spirit of a football game. The responsibility of a serious country is not to fall because of an act of individual or a group of individuals. If Serbians can not see that that is a BIG/HUGE THEIR PROBLEM.

70 something comments.... For Gods sake it's just a game and it wouldn't come to this if the Serbian fans would behave appropriately from the start and the drone was a mistake but no one was killed or hurt. This just shows how much hate there is between us Albanians and Serbs, I do feel sorry for the future generations how they are left to grow up with hate in the Balkans and the future looks grim.

ICJ1,

Considering the large number of thumb down compared to thumb up votes that most Serbian comments got I can only conclude that it is mainly Albanians who come to visit and comment on this article and that we have hit some sensitive nerves with you and other Albanians.
(Milan, 11 July 2015 17:10)

whatever you say mate! I have no evidence to prove or disprove who is voting so I'm leaving it to you. But I'm going to say that I have no idea what a "Serbian comment" is. I was not aware that even comments have ethnicity.

For me comments are either logical, convincing and/or supported by evidence or are just trash without any logical connections or evidence to support them.

But I'm sure that Albanians would more than welcome you to join the victory celebrations :)

What if Bosnia plays vs Serbia? Is there going to be another same scenario? Kosovo will soon be full fledged member of FIFA and UEFA and what is Swerbia going to do about it?. Serbs got to stop mixing politics with sport otherwise it'll always cost you.

Provocation -shprovocation, it takes a useless symbol for the whole stadium to bay for blood and ruin a decent football game. Only those who want to score cheap points, without any $$$ to show. If I were in business of maximizing the profits why not find the biggest stadium, both sets of fan who want to pay 50 EUR, bring some cheerleaders, have some fun by playing stereo types, and let the best team win. But no, bringing the plumbers and thugs defended Serbia' honor, as anything is left to save! Moron politicians moron thugs, let Albanians and Serbia talk, trade and sing directly- in the last 70 years that basic yearning has been modulated by self profitable bands of gangs (politicians) who like it like it is

Serbs should be happy Albania was given its justice after what Serbian barbaric fans did in Belgrade. If UEFA allowed mobs of hooligans attacking players on the field, then your players and fans would face bloody hell at the return match in Shkoder. You really should be happy now that the Albanian fans are somewhat more pacified and happy.
The return match will be a spectacular win for Albania!

TIRANA ULTRAS

Once again in Albania it will be the fair play and we are not gonna act violently like the uncivilized idiotic serbian fans did. The best team will have the chance to win the game also we will show to the rest of the world who really the Albanians are. There is a big difference between two nations as the whole world most know one is savage, barbaric and bloodthirsty and another one is tolerant and friendly. Peace to all human kinds.

ICJ1,

Considering the large number of thumb down compared to thumb up votes that most Serbian comments got I can only conclude that it is mainly Albanians who come to visit and comment on this article and that we have hit some sensitive nerves with you and other Albanians. I am hoping that an ugly back two-headed eagle-looking drone pulling the Albanian flag will fly above the field on October 8 and that both will spontaneously burst into flames. Let us see what happens then and as soon as one Serbian player feels threatened he can walk off the field and he should refuse to come back. Then Albania should also lose the game.

Unfortunately some protective fans decided that it was their duty to protect the Serbian players from the Albanian savages. Anyway, the decision is ridiculous and most likely politically motivated.
(Milan, 10 July 2015 16:34)

You are so confused, dear. In the first sentence you admit that what the Serbian fans did was wrong. Indeed, in a civilized country it is the duty of the police to protect, not the mob. Serbia is not a barbaric country under the rule of the mob.

But then in the second sentence you call the decision for punishing them for that wrongdoing "ridiculous"!!!

I guess if a decision goes against Serbs it is always "ridiculous and most likely politically motivated" regardless of whether that decision is wrong or right. That explains a lot of things :)

The Count of Kosova

Ida,
If everyone had your attitude or took your advice, there would be no European Cup. Imagine if every team with a record similar to Serbia's decide to quit the tournament, what kind of sportsmanship would that convey to the youth of the world. Hasn't Serbia portrayed itself in negative manner already, with its reputation for Genocide. Believe me, if Serbia follows your advice and quits, the humiliation she will suffer will be much greater than if she remained in the tournament and lost all its remaining matches by 10-0.

The fact that there are virtually no comments here from Serbs is a good indication as to how pointless it is to engage in any discourse with these sad trolls who have descended like parasites on this website with nothing constructive to say just the usual nationalistic rhetoric and bravado they keep accusing the Serbians of. A football match is of no real significance win or lose but flying that silly drone over the field of play was at least provocative and at worst showed a total lack of respect for their hosts.Boycott this return match and let the Albanians play with themselves, figuratively speaking. They deserved a good kicking for such unsporting behaviour and let's hope Serbia get drawn with more civilised opponents in the next tournament.

ida

pre 8 godina

Well many Serbs think that Serbia should just forfeit the rest of the games for this group - that Serbia couldn't qualify already, even before the deduction.

Serbia won the U20, and should be satisfied with that.

This judgment was corrupt and does award Albania for the provocation which was planed for weeks, if not months, in advance.

The Albanians got out of it exactly what they wanted - they wanted to stir up the Serbian football fans and cause and incident.

Just like the KLA initiated the killing and kidnappings to provoke a war and foreign intervention, the Albanians are always awarded for starting trouble.

There's no point in this group playing the rest of the games. I don't think the players will have any motivation.

Just write off the whole qualifying campaign as its impossible to qualify anyways.

Mixing politics in sports has ruined it.

Of course Albanians are happy to cheat and win on their provocation and cheating.

It is cheating to win that way - without even playing a fair game and violating a countries airspace with a "Greater Albania" flag with pictures of men who promoted genocide against Serbs - and that was before WWI.

To all you Albanian football fans. How many times did Albania qualify for the World Cup or the European Championship? The answer is ZERO for both events!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albania_national_football_team

So enjoy your descent record for now and be a little bit more modest because history has shown that Yugoslavia and Serbia were/are/will be, in addition to almost everything except the "skills" Albanians excel in worldwide (I do not have to mention them here, but we know what I am referring to), superior in sports and especially football. I think the court decision was fair. But as usual in the balkans , justice is done only when there is a decision in your favor.
Clearly Albania is on the rise, but when one considers how low they started with 50 years of communism, good for them. It is better to have a rich neighbor than a poor one. Now, let us all look forward to that coming match in October and try to win it on the field. That is all that matters.
Football, what a great way to let off steam, I would rather see our countries fiercely compete in sports than wars. May the best win.

I am reading all these comments and I'm amazed! Both sides, Serbs and Albanians, your justifications are so lame! You both contributed to the mess, and now you play the blame game.
I see Albanians completely denying 99% it was an Albanian (or several) who put up that drone with the banner, with the clear purpose to create mayhem on the stadium. Yes, I know, one cannot blame a country for couple idiots, but what was the reason to celebrate in the street such a provocation? Morally, the thousands of Albanians who were so happy because they managed to insult Serbs on their own turf, they are all sharing the responsibility for the mess. Also, I see Albanians complaining about the songs and curses of Serb fans... Well, when the Serb team will play in Tirana, are you sure Albanians will not do the same?

As for the Serb behaviour, you had a chance to prove that you're above provocations. You had 30.000 fans on you side, and you failed. Was it necessary for the Serb player to grab the banner? Why didn't he just invited the Albanians to collect their trash and continue the game? The drone was just a silly gesture from silly people. Mockery is the weapon of the weak. Or was there any fear that on the way back to Tirana, Albanians will take Presevo Valley with them, in their suitcases? And to allow fans to enter the field, that was really stupid!
IMO, both teams should have been expelled completely from the tournament! Next time, maybe you managed to kill yourselves.

Serbs should also thank Ivan Bogdanov and co for this decision. We do not know the details of what went on in the CAS hearing, but I am almost certain that the images of this "modern Serbian hero" walking in the field, undisturbed, unchallenged, were used effectively by the Albanian side. It really looked like the police were powerless (in the best case) or accomplices (in the worst case) with this character. All under the eyes of Vucic and Nikolic and the whole Serbian state.

Dardan Arianit Çelaj

I have some things to say about this news report or should i say propaganda. Firstly this flag of Ethnic Albania is not provocative because we had once owned these lands until the neighbouring countries stolen them. Also this is not a 'expansion project' because all we are doing is protesting for our lands to unify with Albania which should have done a long time ago.

Second of all Vučič your PM is talking rubbish. We started the incident? First of all it was an individual person so it doesn't a whole country. Secondly the game got abandoned because of your fans throwing missiles and flares onto the pitch so stop trying to act smart when you're the one trying to act innocent. It is like a golden eagle flying over the pitch you really think that would be a problem for the players? The drone was in the air!!

Lastly justice has finally been brought to Albanian Football. Because we came to play a game of football and we were met with false reality chants like 'Kosovo je srbja' and racist chants like 'ubi siptar' when we were playing against greece another country that we're not fond of in 2004 we didnt do that so why should you have a right to do that? Then to be met with unfair refereeing from a British referee which I find surprising by giving us yellow cards for wasting time and not a yellow for a serb doing a two footed sliding foul from the back. Then to have missiles thrown to us followed by fans throwing chairs on our players head!

Thanks for reading 🇦🇱

It’s a disappointing news of course but there must be no panic because БУДЕТ И НА НАШЕЙ УЛИЦЕ ПРАЗДНИК. Also it’s quite evident that the scandals around Srebrenica, the football provocation, Macedonia attack and other things are planned far from the Balkans. They always add fuel as soon as peoples here make a step towards cooperation. The problem is not the Albanians but those who manipulate some of them.

“the children of Skenderbeg have a chance” (LOL, 10 July 2015 16:59)

I explained it here several times why Skanderbeg could not be an Albanian and none of them found an argument against. So please stop it and call them children of Mother Theresa or Enver Hohja. It’s also a big question if the shqiptaret and Albanians is the same people. As well as I doubt about the Serbs, the Swedish, the Turks, the Jews , the Bulgars, the Spaniards and some other peoples. Most likely Albanians (the whites) were people from the White Horde that covered big space from Moscow to Sweden, Germany and Britain. At least Mehmet Ali Pasa also could not be a shqiptaret because for 600 years Egypt was ruled by various Cherkassy Cossack dynasties.

LOL,
You are conveniently overlooking the fact that Albania has no losses to date in the Euro 2016 qualifiers whereas Serbia has no wins. Also Albania has beaten two of the top ten ranked teams in the world, at the time of the matches, those being Portugal and France. And, to put icing on the cake, Albania beat Portugal on its home pitch.

Let's face it, Serbia knew they were going to loose to Albania in Belgrade, that is why they attempted to abort the game, in hopes of winning by default and thereby saving face. How did that work out for Serbia! Eat your heart out, loser.

Denis

pre 8 godina

Finally some justice.

Serbian claims were completely ridiculous. A flag was a provocation, but chanting for 50 min "Kill Kill the Albanians" was not...?

Fans will always provoke and be provoked. That doesn't mean you let your hooligans loose in the filed to beat up or attack the players. There is referee in charge to settle any aggressive behavior by the players... again not a job for hooligans.

Serbia lost control of the game since minute one. Hooligans controlled that stadium, and what's worse it's not the first time Shameful.

Ilira

No one in Albanian actually truly believed that CAS would had reversed Uefa decision. This is very unusual and clearly demonstrate the injustice towards the Albanians. Still, even without the 3 points awarded Albania has a very good chance to qualify since they have beaten Portugal, and don't forget France only couple of weeks ago, despite being a friendly. However, people in Albania remember very well all the pathetic lies from the Serb propaganda PM office, even accusing Albania PM brother of directing the drone.. And yes, there is a big smile on Albanian faces today, even bigger when they saw the drone flying above Belgrade stadium. I think Mr Vucic needs to apologise for his lies, never mind claiming victory next match, but i don't think he would be welcomed in Albania.

No-one has 'won' from this situation. Yes, Albania has been given three points by CAS but their reputation suffered as a result of the drone incident as did Serbia's for their reaction. I often read that Serb actions are a result of provocation, and this may well be true, but the option of refusing to be provoked is also available and perhaps one that should be used in the future. Individual footballers with a reputation for having a fiery temper are often would up by opponents hoping for a reaction that means a red card. So it goes with this particular incident. Whoever was responsible, and this has yet to be ascertained, knew full well that a negative reaction would be forthcoming and today is the culmination of that plan. The worst part was not the reaction of the players but the refusal of the police to do their job and stop a pitch invasion. A cynic might wonder whether the police were happy that such an invasion occurred given their reluctance to intervene once it had started. So, back to my initial point; everyone loses.

Comm. Parrisson

pre 8 godina

Amusing comments. As if this decision (3:0 for Albania) would have anything to do with football, quality and the question which team is better.

People who can read should read the article:

"The Lausanne court thus rejected Serbia's appeal, and accepted that filed by Albania, "because it found no evidence that Albanians refused to resume the match," while its considers the interruption to have occurred "due to the bad organization of the game and the violent invasion of the pitch of fans who attacked the guests."

So:

1. No evidence that the Albanian team refused to continue
2. Serbia was punished for bad organization and violent 'fans' (the better word would have been hooligans) invading the pitch and attacking the Albanian players, which cannot be tolerated

P.S: The 100,000€ fines for BOTH teams were not revoked

It looks like the typical Albanian losers have nothing better to do than come to B92 for their daily moment of pathetic glory. The Albanian players were safe until one smart Serbian players finally decided that enough was enough and take that stupid drone and ugly flag down so a football match could be played. The referee should have done this. Then Albanian players started attacking the above mentioned Serbian player and other Serbian players got involved to rescue his. Unfortunately some protective fans decided that it was their duty to protect the Serbian players from the Albanian savages. Anyway, the decision is ridiculous and most likely politically motivated. Serbia will not go to Euro 2016, but on October 8 they can and will hand Albania a humiliating defeat.

@ Ned

Let suppose for a moment that the drone incident and pitch invading never happened. During 40 minutes of the game, there were 11 Albanian players threatens by tens of thousands of Serbian fans singing "Kill, kill the Albanians". Can you say that this is normal. Should this match be allowed to continue in these conditions? Is this fair play?

The truth is that this behavior of the Serbian fans did not caught anyone in surprise. This is their common behavior either in international matches or in local ones. Remember the match in Italy (interrupted)or the match versus England U20, etc.

Time has come that such behavior should be severely punished. If a five year ban was placed to the Serbian team such shameless play would have never happened.

XD

pre 8 godina

Amazing how some people in here take it way to far the significance of the match. I think some of the posters may be overzelaous kids .

In all honesty Serbia should have been punished for not providing adequate security. Furthermore if Albania fails to organize the security for returning match it should be punished as well. You cant have fans in the field attacking players that is just plain bad organization and to make matters worse some security joined in on attacking the Albanian players. Let us self reflect and be honest and fair. In any match where the fans attack the players in the field the host country would automatically lose the match.

Now I am looking forward to the 2nd leg and hopefully we can all enjoy a beautiful game of soccer uninterrupted for the 90 minutes. Serbia has an amazing talent but for some reason it can not connect all the talented players, there seems to be no chemistry between all the talent. Albania on the hand does not have grand names to its team but there is harmony in the Albanian team and they play much better as a cohesive unit. Well may the best side win.

(Ratko, 10 July 2015 15:06)...

This Albanian team is very good one. They beat Portugal in Lisbone.
They were playing very well in Belgrade until barbarian Serbs invaded in the pitch.
They didn't deserve to be punished by UEFA and Platinovich.
I am sure if Platinivich had decided to have a match in neutral ground, Albania would have been OK with that. But Serbs and their ally Platinovich decided to punish Albanian team, even though Albanians were the ones who got beaten by barbarians.
Good decision by CAS!

LOL,
You are conveniently overlooking the fact that Albania has no losses to date in the Euro 2016 qualifiers whereas Serbia has no wins.

Rebeli

No one in Albanian actually truly believed that CAS would had reversed Uefa decision. This is very unusual and clearly demonstrate the injustice towards the Albanians. Still, even without the 3 points awarded Albania has a very good chance to qualify since they have beaten Portugal, and don't forget France only couple of weeks ago, despite being a friendly. However, people in Albania remember very well all the pathetic lies from the Serb propaganda PM office, even accusing Albania PM brother of directing the drone..

P.S: The 100,000€ fines for BOTH teams were not revoked

ned taylor

pre 8 godina

Zoran: The fine does not imply that the Albanians organised the drone flying anymore than the points deduction implies that Serbia organised the pitch invasion. It simply says "take responsibility for things done in your name", a well established principle in footballing circles. The Court for Arbitration for Sport is not interested in squabbles between neighbours, simply the facts on the evening in question as far as they could be established

So, back to my initial point; everyone loses.

ida

I specially went into Wikipedia and seems that he was an Albanian. The English brought him to power and he remained their vassal till his death in 1850.

Albania truly is the country of accomplishments someone else gave them.

You are conveniently overlooking the fact that Albania has no losses to date in the Euro 2016 qualifiers whereas Serbia has no wins. Also Albania has beaten two of the top ten ranked teams in the world, at the time of the matches, those being Portugal and France. And, to put icing on the cake, Albania beat Portugal on its home pitch.

Let's face it, Serbia knew they were going to loose to Albania in Belgrade, that is why they attempted to abort the game, in hopes of winning by default and thereby saving face. How did that work out for Serbia! Eat your heart out, loser.

A football match is of no real significance win or lose but flying that silly drone over the field of play was at least provocative and at worst showed a total lack of respect for their hosts.Boycott this return match and let the Albanians play with themselves, figuratively speaking.

Rebeli

What if Bosnia plays vs Serbia? Is there going to be another same scenario? Kosovo will soon be full fledged member of FIFA and UEFA and what is Swerbia going to do about it?. Serbs got to stop mixing politics with sport otherwise it'll always cost you.

game should've been replayed in an empty stadium. For that matter, both teams should've not been included in the same group.
FSS should've been punished for the invasion of the pitch and the racist shouts.
FAA should've not been held responsable for the drone since Albanian fans were banned.
I don't think the decision is fair and the previous one wasn't fair either.
Unfortunately this is Balkans and I'm afraid it will be like this for decades to come
