That's interesting. After Muslims, Serbs are the largest minority in Austria. According to the fastest growing political party in Austria- the FPO, Serbs are actually less likely to be welfare recipients than their Middle Eastern counterparts. Not demonizing them for that, but if we are going to bring up the topic of welfare, Serbs are putting more into Austria than taking out.

I never knew that Serbs are responsible for the Habsburgs too but I can tell you something.:

“Hab” initially meant Russian “Нав” (навый) while “Burg” was “город” so altogether it meant “Новгород”. The Horde ruling Rurik/Komnin dynasty was living in this city now called Yaroslavl. So Novgorod dynasty was interpreted in Europe as the Habsburgs. First 5 Habsburgs were Russians. Then in late 16 century Horde governors of Permsky Krai ( Austria, part of Germany) started to call themselves Habsburgs to look more legal after their coup. By the way in the old Latin developed on the basis of Slovensky language letter in late 16 century letter “B” was read as sound “v” and it included much more Slav words than the current Latin. For some time the Habsburgs were people from the Horde of Goth-Alanian origin but later they were replaced too while the dynasty name was not changed. Same as with the Windsors. So what is called now the Habsburgs is the third Y-DNA that has nothing to do with the first two. By the way Napoli also means Novgorod. There are thousands of Slav names that has not been wiped off the European maps yet. Though they strived hard. Say Hitler changed about 1100 geographical names of Slav origin and they remained in his version. Horde people always brought names of the places where they came from. So we have California, India, Memphis, Napoli, Catalonia, Galicia , London ect.

Between 1261 and 1453 the lands much later called Ottoman Empire were ruled by one of the branches of the dynasty. Tsar Grad alwys had big autonomy while both Hordes were headed by the same dynasty. So Serbs themselves were “turks” and part of the Horde (one or another) and they needed no shelter from the Ottomans. Their language is much closer to the old "Russian" now than the current Russian. Serbs like Pasha Sokologlu sometimes ruled the Ottomans and were privileged Janissaries and needed no defense. Meanwhile Habsburgs before 1613 were also Slavs. The last one was Ivan IV Grozny.

I would love to hear the story where the Habsburgs saved the Serbs from Bulgarian conquest! The real story is that under General Putnik, the Austro-Hungary army was repelled and finally smashed the third time in 1914. The Serbs picked up many abandoned weapons from the retreating Austro-Hungary army under General Poietorek. Two years later, 1916 with the help of German General Macklenburg and the Bulgarians attacking Serbia from the back side, General Putnik retreated through the Albanian mountains and eventually to the island of Corfu.

The Serbs regrouped in the Salonika front and were set loose in the Eastern Front, in a fury they ripped through German, Austrian and Bulgarian lines and liberated Belgrade. At that moment, Bulgaria could have easily capitulated if the Serbs chose to take it.
