The Serb government spread misinformation among the Albanians in Kosova, stating that Germany was accepting Albanians and giving them large monetary stipends ... Why else would Albanian Kosovars, all of a sudden, decide to go to Germany.
Don't try to tell me that you were not aware of this fact.
(The Count of Kosova, 19 June 2015 15:36)

So you mean to say that Albanians, who have no love for Serbs, no trust for anything Serbs or Serbia does, and have every desire to be as far away from Serbs as possible suddenly believe some rumor or myth from Serbia that Germany is offering them asylum and jobs?

Really, are you that stupid? Did you forget the main reason for Albanian separatism in Kosovo was because they thought they'd get into the EU before Serbia and once recognitions came in they'd use their visas to travel?

Did you forget even your own myths and propaganda or are you so gullible you'd start taking the word of big bad Serbia all of a sudden?

No wonder Hoxha could make up whatever stories he wanted. You'll believe anything.

These are statistics from the first quarter of the year. Hasn't the Kosovo Albanian migration faded out a few months ago?
The Kosovo Albanian migration was strange in that there was no sudden deterioration of their situation in Kosovo, there was no war, but all of a sudden these large numbers pressed to leave for the EU. It seems very orchestrated and perhaps some kind of "practice run."

By any chance are there any Kosovar asylum seekers who desire seeking asylum in Canada and or United States? If not why? Is it because my country and U.S.A. may impose strict limitations on asylum seeking or is it simply because many of the asylum seekers don't have the economic means to settle down in North America or could it actually be because they figure that since Kosovo is a European nation that this country's close proximity to the rest of Europe makes it easier to settle down elsewhere in this continent as opposed to North America which is across the Atlantic Ocean from Europe.

The stupidity of some here beggars belief. Kosovo today for sure is piss poor, however it is infinately better to what it was when the heavenly people ruled roost and that is the whole point. Not one person has ever believed that within 7 years of a as of yet not fully consilidated independence, Kosovo would have an econony that offers mass employment and if any commentator has ever thought that then they stupid to begin with. However, there is also a large number of Serb citizens seeking asylum, what exactly is Serbia"s excuse? Its been a state longer than Kosovo? How about you Mike C, why dont you leave Sweeden for Serbia? Doesnt Serbia also offer minorities exempery human rights Comm?

The reason Kosovo may seem to be failing is because Serbia and big brother Russia are holding the country hostage by way of blocking its recognition internationally every chance they get, namely its recognition as a state in the United Nations. Russia has veto power on the security council and will never allow its recognition as long as Serbia opposes it as well. This scares off the necessary foreign investment that is needed especially in a poor, post-war country in desperate need of development. A case in fact is the Trepca mine complex which contains approximately the 5th largest deposit of coal in the world. If this were to be developed, along with a myriad of other natural wealth, the economy of Kosovo might have a chance, but the Serbs and Russians know this and will never allow its development because they want the money for themselves. Forget about the Serbian Kosovo heartland myth, this blockade is all about money.

This shows you Serbia was a fool to allow the Kosovo Albanians to pass through Serbia. Now Hungary is going to build a fence at its border with Serbia.

Serbia gives in to these EU pressures and gets nothing but trouble and compounded trouble - and the EU promises are likely empty in the long run.

Unbelievable that this massive abuse of asylum cannot be stopped. I thought the EU installed an "independent, multi-ethnic Kosovo" where "minorities have more rights than anywhere on the world" (Thaci).

And this pseudo-country wants to get closer to EU? Don't those Kosovo Albanians know that asylum is for people who are persecuted or oppressed or threatened, and not for people who want to escape economic misery and get a better future outside this 'paradise'? And who is to blame for the hopeless situation in Kosovo? Not the Serbs, not anyone else, only the criminal leaders who only care for their drug mafia clans and their relatives and fill their pockets to build fancy villas, but nevertheless they get reelected again and again for a decade or more.

The best option would have been to build a big wall around Kosovo 20 years ago. I lost any hope that the situation will ever improve, as long as the same criminals rule and abuse the state.

I think you're missing the point.

My point is what possible claim can a citizen of Kosovo have for asylum?

Anyone who claims asylum will get a bed, food etc. so is taken care of at the expense of the taxpayer of the host nation.

I don't think it's fair on those taxpayers, when it's purely economic (to try and get more money / a better standard of living), rather than them being under any threat.

Blame Serbia!
Kosovo was a heavily subsidised province even during YU times.
With independence and the need to be self sufficient, the problems have multiplied.

What is the reason stated for asylum for Albanians from Kosovo? I can't see why they would be accepted - it's a dump, but there's no war. Wanting more money isn't a good enough reason to turn up in another country and expect to be looked after.

Andy UK,
The Serb government spread misinformation among the Albanians in Kosova, stating that Germany was accepting Albanians and giving them large monetary stipends. The reason Serbia did so was to disrupt Germany, since they are responsible for making Serbia go through a rigorous procedure in order to join the EU. It was just another example of Serbian inat, trying to strike back at Germany for insisting on no short cuts for Serbia to enter the EU. Why else would Albanian Kosovars, all of a sudden, decide to go to Germany.
Don't try to tell me that you were not aware of this fact.

As much as I disliked Milosevic and thought his policy terribly stupid, I also was aware that Albanians had a policy of ethnically cleansing Serbs from Kosovo and disliked that too.

Unfortunately the military intervention ended with an attempt to create a new state in Kosovo, which I considered an unfair reward for the way Albanians had driven Serbs out over a long period.

Now that a state has been declared, Western intransigence is not likely to allow an further changes. However, it is also clear that while Albania is a bit of a basket-case economically, Kosovo is never going to be sustainable. The net result will is Albanians running away from the state they so much wanted.

I am not sure whether to call Albanians who leave Kosovo traitors, but certainly these numbers can be seen as votes stating that Kosovo is a failing state.
