The European Union is "not yet sure what to do with itself, or what it would do with us," Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has been quoted as saying.
Momir Bulatovic, a former Yugoslav Prime Minister, wrote about a meeting he attended with Slobodan Milosevic and a senior American official (I am sorry I don't know his name). At the meeting Bulatovic said that he sat quietly while Milosevic and the American spoke. He said that Milosevic told the Americans that he was not their enemy and would work with them to bring peace to the region. He said that he would ensure that Yugoslavia joined the EU and NATO. He asked the American if there was anything in particular that he wanted done. The American responded. He said that Milosevic had not yet understood the relationship between Yugoslavia and America. He said that when America gave orders, Yugoslav leaders were to obey them. If the Americans new orders that contradicted the first orders, then the Yugoslavs were to ask no questions and merely follow the new orders. Milosevic was seeking some form of partnership, but all that was offered was servitude. Things are no different today. If Serbia wants partnership, then it must join with the Russians. If it wants servitude, then it should join the EU and NATO.
