Serbia is still ranked first when it comes to the number of its citizens seeking asylum in Western Europe, a recent report by the European Commission has said.

That's true to apply for asylum someone has to make some type of claims of oppression or persecution and that would only emcompass non-Serbs, with the exception of those claiming bias due to sexual orientation.

To those who have responded to my earlier comment by saying that not all people leaving Serbia for a better life are Roma, I agree. We are not however talking about migration in general but about people seeking asylum.

a matter of point

Of course all these are Roma, Albanian, etc. After all no Serb would ever want to leave Serbia for a better life, am I right lets ask the posters here who by the way DO NOT LIVE IN SERBIA.
Why do you never read about the large immigration of Serbs to Russia?

It would be easy to gain the impression that the people claiming asylum were ordinary run of the mill Serbs. They are not. As with many Balkan countries Serbia has a large Roma population and it is these people who account for not only the majority of asylum claimants from Serbia but from Macedonia, Albania and Bosnia too. They are nominally citizens of a particular country but they themselves do not really feel any attachment and will go wherever they can make some money.

As for the contributor who mentioned that there are larger Roma populations in other European countries, this is true. However, these countries are not on the Schengen White list (many are EU countries) and therefore do not appear in these particular statistics.

Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, Hungary,

But people from these countries don't have to seek asylum in Eu countries, since they are in EU already...

ow many of the 42% are Kosovo Albanians with Serbian passports since there seem to be no Independant Kosovo passport holders seeking asylum..
(RSA, 26 February 2015 14:33)

To be fair that's untrue because Serbian passport holders from Kosovo need a visa to visit the Schengen area. Their passports are isssued by the Serbian Coordination Directorate not the Ministry of interior. Like I've mentioned they are all Gypsies and maybe Albanians from Preševo.

Now, ARI as brave as he is will blame albanians and the Hashim Thaqi for the serbian asylym seekers.

Most of the asylum seekers from Central Serbia & Vojvodina are of Roma origin and Albanians living in the Presevo Valley. "kosovo" (as they call it) is not calculated in this report organized by the EU. I wonder why.

I'm not saying it's good that those people are leaving, just pointing out that the text can be misleading. Also, what's certain is there is no mass exodus with Serbs like there is with Albanians from Kosovo-Metohija.

Countries you mentioned (except Turkey) are EU members, so immigrants can go to Germany freely without claiming asylum. Turkish citizens need a visa to visit the EU.al

"Serbian citizens account for 42 percent of all asylum seekers from the Western Balkans, followed by citizens of Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania and Montenegro, says the commission's regular report of the visa-free travel regime in the region."

This only contains the countries on the Schengen white list, and does not include Kosovo, which would be on top of the list. For example, the numbers for January 2015 in Germany show that 14% come from Kosovo, while less than 10% are Serbian citizens (which probably includes the proud Kosovarians who applied for a Serbian passport for free traveling to EU and abusing the asylum system)

I hoped so, too, but Kosovo Albanians seem to be resistant to any learning from mistakes, and they voted for Thaci, Haradinaj and other corrupt criminals who turned Kosovo to the corrupt mafia hell with no hope for ordinary citizens again and again. And now they flee from in 10.000s from their independent dream state. It's sad, all the billions of donor money only went into the pockets of the criminals.

Not a surprise really. I'm sure many will simply blame Albanians or something stupid, but the whole region has some severe problems with corrupt politicians and a lack of jobs. It affects Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Kosovo. Simply go to Vienna or Munich and you'll find tens of thousands of people from the former Yugoslavia.

Also, Nato bombed Serbia, so Ari had to live like a coward unlike 99% of the serbian population.

I wonder if KLA or Kosovo Government has something to do with this.

This is a clear message to the Serbian Government and Serbian politicians. Instead of taking care of its own people and their daily life, engage in already lost battles.

I feel sorry for these people who are suffering because of stupidity of their leaders. Maybe they will remember this when time will come to vote again.
