Roberto I realize its hard for you to get passed your hatred and racism for two seconds to see reality, but the facts are, according to 3rd party sources, that the journalism in Serbia is more protected there than any where else in the region. That in Europe, only countries which are far wealthier than Serbia score any better.

And sorry but your attention-starving "friend from Novi Sad" not getting any recognition for his vile book is not any ones fault. Maybe he is just not meant to be a writer. Maybe a fictional one.

the truth is much worse than has been written in this article. there is no free and independent media inside serbia - the press is extremely self-censoring and kisses up to whatever regime is currently in power. there is very little in the way of free and critical analysis. what little there is can only be found in very peripheral internet venues such as pescanik and e-novine, and even they have their limitations.

one of the biggest problems, which was alluded to, is the issue of SELF-censorship. thus my friend in novi sad has gotten almost no press for his new book, Soul on Wire, since it brings up uncomfortable issues about serbian politics, values, war crimes, and the pervasive impunity in serbia.

it is a fool's game (played by the usual suspects) to say: oh, maybe it's bad here, but even worse in bosnia or kosovo. let's just say that balkan media, as a rule, tends to be low in integrity. but this is about the situation in serbia. stop lying and defending the ugly reality!

And yet you keep visiting and posting comments on a website that is all about a country that is far from perfect, you little innocent T.

Ok Ari, point taken. Maybe Serbia is better placed than some other countries, especially in the Balkan, but it still is far from perfect.

I guess why Serbia still lacks behind other countries in this respect is maybe because the country still hasn't come full circle out of transition from the dark old days of the Milosevic regime where attacks on journalists were common place.

Which "other countries"? According to Reporters without Borders http://rsf.org/index2014/en-eu.php, Serbia scores better than any body else in the Balkans. So by other countries do you mean countries that are more wealthier and advanced than Serbia and the rest of the region? If so, you should say the entire region, not just Serbia when in fact Serbia has the best standards in the neighborhood.

Or otherwise, you are operating from a point of bias, slander and hatred. But we know you wouldn't do that, right?

This day and age those that oppress and/or those in power who fail to protect the civil and human right of free speech should be punished to the full extend of the law.
Those journalists who have been attacked, either physically or otherwise, should have had the full protection of the law. They didn't get it.
I guess why Serbia still lacks behind other countries in this respect is maybe because the country still hasn't come full circle out of transition from the dark old days of the Milosevic regime where attacks on journalists were common place. An other reason maybe that the political system is still not ready to accept critisism, like in Russia for instance.
Whatever the reason the issue needs to be addressed seriously. Free speech is the foundation of a free society, without it we are nothing.
