At same time, Nikolic should have asked Putin why four Russian IOC members voted yes for Kosova to become a full fledged member!? Kosova has become the 205 member of IOC. Welcome to Rio 2016.

Is anyone naïve enough to believe that the sanctions being imposed and the price of oil (Russia's only major source of revenue) dropping to record lows is just a coincidence??
For those who have claimed over the last couple of years that the US has become powerless and has been replaced by Russia and China, maybe it is time to rethink your positions.

I think it’s too early to make final judgments though today Russia made the SS refusal legal. There are many prejudices in relations between Turkey and all other sides involved. The biggest slap got Bulgaria while Greece may quite win because you may be the pipe’s entrance to the continent. Furthermore some elements of the late SS may quite be revived including a pipe to Serbia. I don’t think with such an active electorate Greece will obey Brussels much. But I am not that sure about Macedonia. The configuration may be unexpected.

I am most pleased to follow the stupid statements Bulgaria and Brussels are making every day. Sofia demands from their bosses to … revive the Stream ! Brussels is to discuss the SS on Tuesday. Now that today Minister Novak said there’s no way back and the Russian FM stated that we refuse even to enter any negotiations to stop the sanctions. It will be very amusing to hear words they will find in such an awkward situation.

Turkey is like a chronicle gambler playing on all the desks but they must be aware of the threats that you mention. Besides making us partners Erdogan have better chance to survive. The biggest problem is that people hate to acknowledge their mistakes. I mean Syria where the Turks went too far. But the new threats and new challenges may push them to do it.

"It seems to come down to economics - Russia and Gazprom cannot afford South Stream. ...especially as EU gas consumption is decreasing. So the EU may have handed Gazprom an easy way out.
(Josip, 8 December 2014 16:18)

No, Gazprom could afford it, but, as you wrote, it simply makes no economical sense to waste some billions of $ to build a pipeline that is not needed. The existing gas pipelines have been sufficient so far and will stay sufficient with a decreasing gas demand in the EU and expanding gas supply sources like LNG. And North Stream still has capacity, as far as I know.

Agreed, the additional legal requirements set up by EU are an easy way out for Gazprom.

It seems to come down to economics - Russia and Gazprom cannot afford South Stream. It seems that the Russian Government/Gazprom have come to terms with the fact that oil and gas prices will remain low and they cannot subsidize very expensive South Stream, especially as EU gas consumption is decreasing. So the EU may have handed Gazprom an easy way out.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, the picture of Nikolic sitting next to Putin is worth 2000 words!

Putin, with his hands open is saying "Sorry Puto! Did you really believe we gave a $hit about Serbia and its people? No. We are in it for ourselves".

Nikolic, with his withdrawn facial expression is saying "I thought you really cared Putin. I thought Mother Russia had some extra milk for its bastard child Serbia. You no love me anymore Putin. Cryyyyyyyyy!!" LOL

If the President for Life of Russia cleaned up his act about Ukraine this would not be a problem.

He has destabilised Ukraine by military intervention. The destabilisation of international politics is an inevitable result.

Putin informed him in detail about the South Stream pipeline, that Russia last week announced was scrapped, and about a new pipeline planned to go through Turkey.

I can understand the economic angle of this announcement since it brings economic benefits both to Russia and Turkey. The problem arises with the political manifestations of this announcement and its repercussions.I find it hard to believe that calif Erdogan will be allowed spoil US's plans of isolating Russia by breaking its sanctions with this gas deal. We've seen from recent history how the US conspires and removes leaders of sovereign nations on ficticious charges and therefore Erdodan is not going to be an exception. The CIA and the Western media is going to go after Erdogan hammer and tongs.Once a rift is created between the master and his puppetand the puppet is considered expired, then all of a sudden, the reversal branding and marketing begins: All old skeletons are dug out of the deep closets and leaked to the media. His previously overlooked human rights violations are looked at and scrutinized under a microscope and his corruption scandals will be at the frond pages of the ever obliging media. The terrorist card will also be brought into the equation. Whichever way the common layman looks at it Erdogan's days are numbered.Anyone who ever dares to be this "reckless" will be punished and made an example for all other installed-puppets.

A fifth of Serbs still believe that Russia is the largest financial donor, although since 2000, Moscow has not given any grants. The European Integration Office says that in the same period, EU and individual member states such as Germany, Italy or the Netherlands amounted to a total of 4.2 billion euros.

So I think this is why Serbia except geography wants to go to EU not closer to Russia.

MT, Russian gas is highly unlikely going to go through Bulgaria. Look at the map. From Turkey, the gas will either go through Greece or through a Greek spur on the pipeline. It has yet to be decided. From Greece it can go through Macedonia as the next link followed by Serbia etc. The money saved on South Stream Black Sea branch to boosting the Blue Stream route can be used to improve gas transit infrastructure in Greece and stretch the route right down Serbia.

What is the point of cancelling South Stream because of Bulgaria to only send it back through Bulgaria via Turkey? It is nonsensical as it yet again gives Brussels an easy pressure point on the whole project

South Stream may yet be officially cancelled but one fact remains true whatever happens, Bulgaria is by far the weakest link. Unless Brussels' selective conditions on South Stream are dropped and an legal agreement written in blood, then Bulgaria is totally out. They simply cannot be trusted.

For the naysayers, here's Brussels begging for South Stream to go ahead:

This is really strange, since both countries have detrimental and attitudes and policies regarding Syria and regarding other Islamic extremists.
Though, I can understand that these two autocrats must like each other, Putin dreaming of becoming the new Tsar of the Russian empire and Erdogan dreaming of becoming the Sultan of the new Osman empire.

Since Russian gas will now be piped, via Turk-stream, through EU members Greece, Bulgaria, Rumania, Hungary, Croatia and Austria, Serbia will find itself isolated. The EU will possibly do something really nasty like allow a gas pipeline from Croatia to Serbia and give the Croats freedom to switch off the supply when it suits them.

Serbia needs to find an alternative to Russian gas as soon as possible. Luckily God has smiled on little Serbia and has given it the Danube River. It should build the Djerdap 3 hydroelectric dam on the Danube. This would increase electricity production by 40% and Serbia would not need Russian gas. The Russians could help. This Dam is mostly concrete which Serbia has, but the turbines are expensive and come from Russia. A cheap loan agreement with Russia for turbines would give Serbia the energy security that South Stream promised.

capo di tutti capi

pre 9 godina

Most likely Serbia and Hungary will have economical compensation but Serbia is to lose the influence it could obtain with the Stream. Times of Yeltin are gone and Putin in no way will leave Serbia tet-a-tet with it problems. In the circumstances Russia had to deprive the US of the SS tool of blackmail. And because Turkey has no friends ( but Albania) on the peninsula the Russian hat-trick is bad news for all the rest. Strange as it is but Turkey has become a strategic partner of Russia. Turks have enforced their positions in talks with the US and their 30-40 European colonies. Besides all of them became hostages of the Ukraine transit. Kiev is balancing at the edge of the inevitable catastrophe. Most likely the collapse will start for lack of … coal and it will happen in the weeks to come.

I'm curious about that. So far, Serbia's main export product, vehicles (FIATs made in Kragujevac) were excluded from the free trade agreement. Removing that, maybe Serbia's trade deficit with Russia will go down to a normal level, comparable to its biggest trade partners Italy and Germany.
