"Greater Albania?!! That's funny! Albania has insufficient capacity to develop its own territory and could not possibly do anything substantial in neighboring areas. "

Agreed, Albania lacks capacity to absorb more territory. West-Germany experienced a lot of trouble when it united with the East and Germany itself went through a lot of pain after re-unification and depending who or what you read, its still paying for it. If a country as rich as Germany has trouble with that, a country as poor as Albania would go bankrupt 10 times over taking in more areas. Greater Albania, as well as being unattainable, and for me personally undesirable, is not even in Albania's interest. Neither Serbs nor Albanians need bigger borders, they need better living standards

Greater Albania?!! That's funny! Albania has insufficient capacity to develop its own territory and could not possibly do anything substantial in neighboring areas. This obsession we have with Greater Albania, Greater Serbia, Greater Bulgaria, whatever... is sad. Writers on this site and elsewhere are justifiably angry - but what is the real reason that we are angry? We are angry because of the terrible economic situation that the entire Balkans is in. And that situation has to do with your own leaders during the past 20 years not making the reforms necessary to move your countries forward. Instead they practice cronyism and keep you distracted by constantly fueling the ethnic nonsense that is a cancer in this region.

"Greater Albania" it's a wrong term which manipulates the right one, "ethnic Albania"
(Nik Nika, 11 November 2014 22:32)

Well what ever retarded, brain dead name you would like to give it, the rest of us couldn't care less what you call it. The reality is in order to achieve it, you will have to steal territory from 4 different UN recognized countries. You started with Serbia, but that was only possible with a NATO airforce bombing Serbia while you commit atrocities against Kosovo-Metohija.

So think it through, ONLY the strongest military alliance was able to get the Serbian military to leave Kosovo-Metohija. Since then, you tried in FYR Macedonia and you lost. In central Serbia you tried, you lost again. In 2011, you tried to take Northern Mitrovica and one of the terrorists that came up to impose their will was shot dead. Again, not by any Serbian military, just ordinary Serbs in northern Kosovo-Metohija with nothing but the arms they keep in their homes.

So the general rule of thumb is without NATO, you lose. It is absolutely impossible to achieve your sick fantasies call it greater or ethnic Albania, doesn't matter. But you don't understand how much of a proponent I am of your project. I fully support you being so stupid enough to try. Please start already. I know you kind of already did, but I think it's time to ramp up efforts and really roll up your sleeves and get to work!

@ "stop the hatred".....you are the so typical Serb hypocrite claiming one thing and actually doing the opposite.

All you do is insult me just because I dare speak the truth.

Serbia will collapse and disappear due to low birth and high death rate.
All minorities will be liberated and freedom and democracy will succeed.

I love my people but my true love is the truth.

"Greater Albania" it's a wrong term which manipulates the right one, "ethnic Albania".Its a historical fact that half of territories of ethnic Albania were left outside the today Albania borders. Changing borders now its not a good idea and its not going to happen anyway. The key is that minorities to have the all rights, serbians, greeks, albanians etc. But that doesn't happen. A bad example is Greece which is even part of EU!!! Despite greek minority enjoing all the rights in Albania, the massacred ethnic albanians of Chameria cant even visit their abandoned homes!!!! Is this the Europe we want to join!?

Preshevo,Medvedja and Bujanovac is an internationally recognized part of Serbia.
Vojvodina is an internationally recognized part of Serbia.

The ethnic Bulgarian Region (whose name you couldn't come up with but felt the need to somehow care about) is also an internationally recognized part of Serbia.

Belgrade is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Southeastern Europe, visited annually by tens of thousands of people who all say they love it.

Albania was created in 1912 and did not have any of these territories you aspire to steal. The reason why Albania is surrounded by ethnic Albanians is because so many got the hell out of there and went to live in Yugoslavia because Hoxha's Albania was the most primitive, barbaric country in Europe at the time.
(Ari Gold, 11 November 2014 11:05)

"Our project is a Greater Europe with Serbia and Albania. A Greater Albania is an obsolete myth that has nothing to do with us," Albanian PM Edi Rama has said.

Ah it's nice some Western officials contacted him after his do-it-yourself speech yesterday and reminded him to stick to script. Though at the same time I wonder if he's really paying attention to the more "patriotic" Albanian elements around him in Macedonia and the disputed territory of Kosovo, where dreams of joining Albania are more than obsolete myths but help people win elections.

In other news, he lamented the alleged conditions of Albanians in Presevo and said they need to do everything possible to avoid assimilation. A worthy goal since no one likes being absorbed into another society. I'm sure Vucic is going to say the same when he visits northern Kosovo in a few weeks (which will no doubt be interpreted by Albanians there as politically provocative). Though I wonder why Rama worries so much about Presevo where Albanians are basically free to erect monuments to failed terrorist movements, while Greeks and Serbs in Albania are frequently and systematically given Albanianized names and denied all but the most rudimentary rights of identity? Maybe his crusade against assimilation can provide an example in minority rights in Shkoder and northern Epirus?

Or did I goof once again in pointing socio-political inconsistencies in Albania's own backyard? It's almost impossible not to.

Why are we sitting around discussing this agent provocateur (Rama),who if he is the best politician in the Balkans, as one contributor maintains, he's certainly not much of a diplomat. To the other contributor who says Serbs want 49% of Bosnia....well I think that's a gross underestimation as Serbs actually have legal title to about 60% of it and therefore Dayton does need to be re-negotiated. Serbian propaganda has embarked on a deliberate campaign to vilify as much as possible the unification between Albania and Kosova. This well-organized propaganda is using the fear to influence the opinions and actions of others towards some specific end. The feared object or subject is sometimes exaggerated, and the pattern of fear mongering is usually one of repetition, in order to continuously reinforce the intended effects of this tactic, sometimes in the form of a vicious circle. Thus, 'Greater Albania' is proclaimed by those who are covetous to conceal the project of 'Greater Serbia'. One is tempted to ask which one is more meneacing? I reckon the latter because it is Serbia who is trying to establish a large state which would allegedly encompass 'all Serbian lands'. According to this project, 49% of Bosnia and northern parts of Kosova would be incorporated within this state. In the meantime, serbs are anxious to carve up certain areas of Macedonia. But this project is going awry as long as Serbia has weakened greatly and its population is dying out. It's time to swep away all fears from 'greater Albania' because it is an inavoidable end. If Germany got unified, then why the same cannot be applied to Albanians who are partitioned into 5 states. Yes, and some dozens others don't recognize Kosovo as an independent state - so there must be two or more realitites. Is this possible?
No, better see the one real reality, which is: Kosovo is nothing but a disputed territory where etnic minorities declared an own state, like Palestine, South Ossetia, the famous 'Republik Donetsk' in Ukraine and a few other 'states'

"However, after this kind of incident it is evident that our roads are different," Drecun observed, and added that Rama's decision to speak about Kosovo as an independent state was an example of Greater Albania pretensions..

(Abeis, 11 November 2014 10:29)

You mean unavoidable? It sure as hell can be avoidable if the sovereign UN recognized countries of Serbia, Greece, Macedonia and Montenegro understand what the biggest threat to the common security and stability of the region is. I don't know how you will confiscate territories from 4 countries because the only place you've ever succeeded to occupy is with NATO as your air force. Think about that, nothing else on this planet would have caused Serbia's military to leave Kosovo-Metohija except for the strongest military alliance on the planet. How are you going to get such support against 4 countries, one of which is a founding member of NATO?

"If Germany got unified, then why the same cannot be applied to Albanians who are partitioned into 5 states. Albania is perhaps the only country in world which is surrounded in all sides by ethnic Albanians."

(azir, 11 November 2014 10:50)

Let me fix these comments for you:

Preshevo,Medvedja and Bujanovac is an internationally recognized part of Serbia.
Vojvodina is an internationally recognized part of Serbia.
Sandjak is an internationally recognized part of Serbia.

It's neither my fault nor my interest that you're a sad, angry, and pathetic little Albanian troll who spews hate speech and intolerance, ironically on a Serbian news site. It's also neither my fault nor my interest you're too stupid to recognize, let alone accept, internationally accepted territorial arrangements, many of which are more than 100 years old.

In short, no one care what you think needs or doesn't need to exist because you're nobody other than what I've classified you above. Go do something productive with your life for a change and leave the primitive hatred behind. With hard work and dedication, you may grow up to be a pleasant person.

Ignorant Serbs must understand that what Albania's PM Rama publicly declared is not what 109 other countries of the world hadn't done already.

serbia's continued occupation of Presheva,Medvedja and Bujanoc is a provocation.
serbia's continued occupation of Hungarian-Vojvodina is a provocation.
serbia's continued occupation of Sandjak is a provocation.
serbia's continurd occupation of Ethnic Bulgarian Region is also a provocation.

Belgrade being Europe's War Crimes Capital is a provocation.

Abeis

Albania is perhaps the only country in world which is surrounded in all sides by ethnic Albanians. this urges to revise current boundaries and establish some viable states and not multi-ethnic weakling creatures!

Dealing with Albania is a different thing to dealing with Kosovo. The biggest mistake that the Serb establishment has ever made is to start a "fight" with Albania. You are no match for Rama! He is currently the best politician in Balkan.

Aside all the media coverage and the emotions, Rama actually did a big favor to Serbia. From today politician in Serbia are free to talk with their Albanians counterpart about everything and anything. I suspect they also have legal title to a considerable amount of the land in Kosovo too but I may be wrong there. I'm sure there's someone available to correct me, there usually is on this sad forum.

@Ari Gold, is that how part of Bosnia became Serbian, because Serbs left the hell hole that was Serbia and migrated to Bosnia? its a pity what's happened to Krajina Serbs though isn't it? chasing a Greater Serbia myth and ending up becoming izbeglicas in Serbia proper. "A Greater Albania is an obsolete myth that has nothing to do with us," Albanian PM Edi Rama has said.

Clear words - nice to hear those from an Albanian PM. It's a nothing but a myth, yes, and it's obsolete, too.

"Show me at least one proof of that in my career or in the career of any Albanian politician that would support they stood for a Greater Albania."

Nonsense words, it's well known that there are extremist politicians that advocate Greater Albania, though they prefer to call it 'natural Albania'.

"It is not something I dreamed up. It is the reality. Many countries that Serbia cooperates with recognized Kosovo as an independent state."

This is nonsense, too. An independent Kosovo is the oppositie of Greater Albania. The Kosovo nationalists, for example the so-called 'Self-Determination movement', want a unification with Albania, i.e. no independent Kosovo.
