sj,
You should start storing food and water for the coming cold Winter. If you ask Ari Gold for advice, he will tell you how he barely survived the war in Serbia during 1999. Most Serbs dined on "road kill" washed down with water from the toilet bowl in order to survive The recession is now taking hold in both Russia and Serbia. Russia is bankrupt, you will learn that if you asked rote. Putin finds it impossible to prop up the ruble, even after raising interest rates by an unprecedented 1.5%. Running to China for help will only expose you to their cold shoulder, try it and you will see.

I have no idea what planet you live on but it certainly is not planet earth. What sanctions are hurting Russia? Monertary? It would be true if this was 1990, but sadly for people like you its not true simply because the west does not hold the purse anymore.
(sj, 5 November 2014 23:20)

I totally agree. That is clearly demonstrated by Ruble's free fall to the lowest against the dollar since when there are records :) Russian citizens should be more patriotic though and not dump their dear Ruble in favor of the evil dollar.

I know its the lack of democratically grown fruits and vegetables – that is how Russia suffers LOL.
I hate to burst you tiny bubble but the US will increase its interest rates soon. Germany is on the cusp of another recession and you know what happens to the EU if that occurs. Now for all our American friends, if Europe goes down that path so does the US. I would not look at the US stock market as an indicator of economic health as its learnt to function outside of that area.
Sadly the only country that did not suffer from a recession was Australia and it now looks like heading the same way.
Now what was that about Russia again?????

But it's ridiculous to automatically equate Russia to the Soviet Union when many of the Soviet elite were not even Russian and as I said, had to essentially wipe Russia off the map in order to come to power.
(Ari Gold, 5 November 2014 20:19)

Ari,
You conveniently overlooking the fact that Putin was in charge of Soviet KGB . All that happened was a simple name change, therefore it is not at all ridiculous to equate Russia to the Soviet Union. Putin just put on a hat of a different color since he still is in charge of the Russian KGB=FSB and SVR. Don't forget, you are not bullying kids in the playground here on B92.

'Declared war on the world' is a bit exaggerated, but in general, Walesa as the winner of the peace Nobel prize, has some valid points. And he, as a Pole, must fear the Russian aggression, since Russia stole half of Polish land after WW2.
(Comm. Parrisson, 5 November 2014 14:16)

The Soviet Union stole that land, not Russia. In order for the Soviet Union to come into power they had to defeat the Russian state, killing millions of Russians in the process. I know that even before the USSR, Russia and Poland have had historical problems.

But it's ridiculous to automatically equate Russia to the Soviet Union when many of the Soviet elite were not even Russian and as I said, had to essentially wipe Russia off the map in order to come to power.

Russians only want MIR. But usa is evil and that means russia is good. And it is better to be enslaved by the russians than by the americans like some crackpot wrote here yesterday. So this seems to be really the zeitgeist in serbia at the moment and thats why this country will finally go to hell because it sold its soul to the devil in the disguise of put-in and russia who backstabbed all her allies in history and always made secret deals with her 'enemies' who only gave her rulers a good justification to plunder and opress the citizens aka slaves of the oligarchy and this is why serbia will get a russian knife in her back and she will be scr#w#d more royally then by the facists (with whom stalin had secret deal of course and allowed the butcher of the greek after the war) but now even they worship put-in.

Maybe Western powers shouldn't think that there actions don't have consequences.
(Ari Gold, 5 November 2014 11:12)

Ari,
True, but not in the way you meant! Western sanctions have had severe negative effects on both Serbia and Russia. However, Milosevic and Putin will go down in history as being the ones responsible for destroying their respective countries.

Recently, Western sanctions have been brilliantly effective countering Russia's aggression. Just last week Russia raised its key interest rate by 1.5% to support the ruble, only to have it plummet to new lows. As a result, Russia has abandoned its efforts to support the ruble, with no plan to halt the demise of their currency. Conversely, the U.S. stockmarkets are hitting new highs.

Perhaps, chief economist sj can explain Russia's idiotic policies and provide guidance to Putin.

Lech Walesa does not understand Worldpolitic !.

I Quote -

"Europe and the world are responsible and are looking to avoid confrontation, and he's pushing on with that wreckage of weapons. It is very dangerous, we need to be united and properly respond," Walesa said.

Its not Russia whom are the Agressive One-
But the west pushing Ukraine to Military Agression against the Russians in Eastern Ukraine.

The US and West are Hypocrits full of Doubblemorale !.

"The situation in the east is now very dangerous. When nuclear weapons were handed over, great powers gave guarantees of territorial integrity to Ukraine and he has challenged that"

There's no doubt about it. On its own, the Russian involvement in Ukraine is under international law considered to be very illegal. However there is also such a thing as precedent as well, and NATO imperialists clearly set a precedent with the illegal and immoral bombardment of Serbian hospitals and schools in order to defend rabid Albanian separatism the leaders of which still to this very day engage in drug and human trafficking.

Russia on the other hand is using its military for the interests of its own citizens where they live. Russia is not bombing Kiev. So yes very illegal, but nothing compared to NATO aggression on Serbia.

Maybe Western powers shouldn't think that there actions don't have consequences.
