Albania criticized for stance during floods

Just curious - how much help did Serbia send during Albania's floods a couple of years back? Kosovo sent a search-and-rescue team from its defense force (their first out-of-country operation), but I can't remember what Serbia did. It's pretty tacky to complain about a lack of a public show of sympathy, in any case.

In 2010 and 2011 Albania had his "floodings", i don't remember Serbia sending condolences to us or anything else. No one was surprised for this "Serbian stance", and noone really cared or criticised Serbia. What is suprising by the way is this current serbian stance. Anyway we sent our help during this flooding to Bosnia. I don't know if some of them went to Serbia too, but to Bosnia yes. I know this for sure.

P.s. We Albanians dear mr. Dacic are not hypocrites when we hate or love we do it sincerly. Bye Bye

During that 1998-1999 conflict, your Serbia which you yourself held governmental positions, was involved in the worst case of ethnic cleansing & genocide against a race of people since WW2! And, your Serbia forced over 1 million Albanians to flee their ancestral homes, seeking refuge mostly in neighboring Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro!!! According to him, Albania failed to send a telegram of condolences to Serbia, while none of its officials signed the book of condolences - "not to mention any assistance."

How may telegrams of condolences have you send to Albania during natural and/or man made disasters so far????

This Serb preoccupation - and indeed OBSESSION - with constantly having to be the victim of something does nothing to portray Serbia in a positve light. I am not sure why the SFM makes such an allegation without first consulting his Ambassador to Tirana. The same goes for B92. Do they want to embarrass and humiliate the FM? I followed a link posted in the comments that took me to the AFM's website. I was able to read it with my modest Albanian and Google translate. A statement issued on May 21, 2014 by the AFM "expresses sincere condolences to the families and the governments of BiH and Serbia for the loss of lives" and solidarity to overcome the situation.

I am not sure what Milosevic's right arm expected. We are waiting for your official apologies for a while now.

With all due respect to the Sebian people and the victims of the flooding, I don't think it's fair to amke an example of Albania in this way. During the flooding in Northern Albania a few years ago Serbia did not offer any support but Albania (as far as I know) did not make an example of them. Although it is regretable that Albania didn't offer any support to Serbia on this occassion I don't think it is right to make an example of the country. Many other countries offered no support but they weren't named. A jesture of goodwil is supposed to be a selfles act not a political move and failure to support should not result in backlash from the victim. Let's hope that the people effected by the flooding continue to receive the support they need and are able to reconstruct their lives as quickly as possible.

It was bad enough that even before the waters had risen to their highest point the leaders were on planes to anywhere waving a dollar bill. Before the people affected were pulled to safety, the politicians were gathered plotting strategies of how to turn the event into a monetary windfall, the idea of a donor conference already in plans before waters receded. Political panhandling reaching professional heights.
Now the condemnation of countries that did not give enough, countries that have been Serbs would rather cut their arm off than lend assistance or support to and then have the gall to stand on a soap box and say they have not given us the condolences we "deserve".

Incidentally and speaking of assistance I recall 9 years ago that when I used to study in the city of Halifax which is located in neighboring province of Nova Scotia that when I attended an Islamic event at the Halifax Forum where at some point it was announced a local Kosovar-Albanian woman/mother died by accidentally falling off someone's apartment deck or patio where she left behind a husband and kid(s) and after the announcement a box would be passed around from person to person to insert a monetary donation of any amount and when the box was passed over to me I inserted some money.

Months later when I was out on the street an unknown fellow approached me and asked if I could spare him some money for coffee and when I politely explained I don't have change he had the nerve to give me attitude and in return I told him off( met him by chance three times and when we last spoke some bystander commented to me that he was an "idiot" after her bad encounter with him) so the point is even though this fellow has nothing to do with the Kosovar family,nonetheless,I feel that Kosovar family is more deserving of my assistance instead of that fellow who acted spoilt with his poor attitude.

I agree with you on aid. We definitely can do without their donation but it costs nothing to send condolences. Maybe they were glad it happened and sending condolences would not be genuine, but they hypocracy comes naturally to them.

Just curious - how much help did Serbia send during Albania's floods a couple of years back? Kosovo sent a search-and-rescue team from its defense force (their first out-of-country operation), but I can't remember what Serbia did. Incidentally and speaking of assistance I recall 9 years ago that when I used to study in the city of Halifax which is located in neighboring province of Nova Scotia that when I attended an Islamic event at the Halifax Forum where at some point it was announced a local Kosovar-Albanian woman/mother died by accidentally falling off someone's apartment deck or patio where she left behind a husband and kid(s) and after the announcement a box would be passed around from person to person to insert a monetary donation of any amount and when the box was passed over to me I inserted some money.

Months later when I was out on the street an unknown fellow approached me and asked if I could spare him some money for coffee and when I politely explained I don't have change he had the nerve to give me attitude and in return I told him off( met him by chance three times and when we last spoke some bystander commented to me that he was an "idiot" after her bad encounter with him) so the point is even though this fellow has nothing to do with the Kosovar family,nonetheless,I feel that Kosovar family is more deserving of my assistance instead of that fellow who acted spoilt with his poor attitude.

Albania got the EU candidate status last night and I guess he tryed to add a little dirt and maybe maybe his slovak gipsys will listen to him and veto the decsision .... Well well ... hit where ever you can, you lost your fight you lost your diplomatic fight just take care of you people before you start one more conflict in south and lose the bosnians and hungarians in north.

With all due respect to the Sebian people and the victims of the flooding, I don't think it's fair to amke an example of Albania in this way. During the flooding in Northern Albania a few years ago Serbia did not offer any support but Albania (as far as I know) did not make an example of them. Although it is regretable that Albania didn't offer any support to Serbia on this occassion I don't think it is right to make an example of the country. Many other countries offered no support but they weren't named. A jesture of goodwil is supposed to be a selfles act not a political move and failure to support should not result in backlash from the victim. Let's hope that the people effected by the flooding continue to receive the support they need and are able to reconstruct their lives as quickly as possible.

It was bad enough that even before the waters had risen to their highest point the leaders were on planes to anywhere waving a dollar bill. Before the people affected were pulled to safety, the politicians were gathered plotting strategies of how to turn the event into a monetary windfall, the idea of a donor conference already in plans before waters receded. I am not sure why the SFM makes such an allegation without first consulting his Ambassador to Tirana. The same goes for B92. Do they want to embarrass and humiliate the FM? I followed a link posted in the comments that took me to the AFM's website. I was able to read it with my modest Albanian and Google translate. A statement issued on May 21, 2014 by the AFM "expresses sincere condolences to the families and the governments of BiH and Serbia for the loss of lives" and solidarity to overcome the situation.
