Perhaps why the majority of Serbs favor the EU is because they know the South Stream is now dead. They have no one to blame but Putin. Putin is having second thoughts about having annexed Crimea. It will be fun watching Vlado attempt to stand down from the mess he created. Meanwhile, America is about to reveal their long held secret plan to supply Europe with plenty of cheap fuel, in the event of Russian adventurism. The USA protects their friends rather than conquer them. And sj, before responding with something foolish, the US and the American people do not consider Serbia a friend as evidenced by the humanitarian intervention in Kosovo during 1999.

These two republics were ahead of Serbia because Tito diverted resources and finance to appease them. In the case of Slovenia, Tito had to make sure they had a higher standard of living otherwise being surrounded by Austria and Italy the west could have stirred much trouble for the communists. Where is Slovenia today? Exactly where it should be broke and sliding further and further into the financial abyss. Ask the Slovenes why they demonstrate against their own government; ask them why are they demanding to know where is that “better life if they left Yugoslavia” promised by Milan Kucan and others.
In regard to Croatia, it was also propped up by the rest to stop trouble from brewing. Where is Croatia today? Let’s see. The EU can no longer subsidise either Slovenia or Croatia so both had to spend all the moneys received from the breakup of Yugoslavia and now Croatia is cleaned out. Even Moody’s has classified both countries in the junk bond status. In fact Croatia has since that time ben further downgraded – without Serbia neither can survive. Why do you think the EU is pushing for the old republics to trade???
The days of wine and roses are over.

That's a poor comparison. Slovenia has about 1/4 of the population Serbia does and it had no difficulties making the transition from a socialist to a market economy. Slovenia was not a victim of the Yugoslav communist redrawing of borders, nor did have a separatist movement to deal with in their own republic. They left and modernized quickly.

Serbia had to deal with the historical injustices of communist revisionism. It had to support the Serbian populations in territories that were unilaterally being declared as now a part of some other country and had to deal with separatism in Kosovo i Metohija.

Then you can add sanctions, demonization by Western media, that whole 78 air assault by the strongest military alliance in the world and the billions of dollars that have been taken out of Serbia after the Otporista takeover of Serbia in 2000.

^these are the reasons why Serbia and Slovenia are not the same and not because Slovenia joined the EU. Haha, you're funny.

So, why did all of that stuff happen to Serbia and not to Slovenia ? Let me guess... because the world, for some reason, hates Serbia :)

Serbia should not be fooled by the EU, it's nothing more than a German/UK run dictatorship in which those who live in DE or UK are free but nobody else is.

Serbia should instead be a crossroads country where they have a similar agreement for the EU as CH does, but is free to negotiate whatever agreement with Russia she wants to have

Better ask Slovenians if they want to have the living standards of Serbs nowadays.

Better ask Slovenians if they want to have the living standards of Serbs nowadays. For Croatia, I don't expect huge benefits after 3 months. But even in YU these two republics were ahead of Serbia and Bosnia, not to mention the mafia-contaminated economic pit called autonomous region of Kosovo.

Serbia will never receive an invitation to join the EU. Following this fanatic ideology is going to result in a bigger waste of time and resources than communist Yugoslav "brotherhood and unity".

Now that Croatia can veto Serbia's admission, forget it. Croatia is far from the only country that will veto, but their conditions will be extremely unreasonable.

...watch the former "radicals" turned "moderates" and "progressives" do absolutely everything to appease a Croatian revision of their role of expanding Nazism in Europe and the ethnic cleansing of the 90s.
