njegos- everytime I go back to Croatia I meet Serbs, they are either someone's neighbor, married into a friend's family or just someone that has lived there for several generations. In several instances, I learn that the person is Serbian because I've asked or it was brought up, nobody knows or cares, thats the truth! I've seen it in Slavonija, Dalmacija, Lika and most of all in Zagreb...I think people on sites like this make it a big deal but it really isnt!
One of my closest friends lives in Zagreb, his father was an Ustasa, his entire family were....he grew up in Canada and one of his childhood friends was a Serbian kid...the odd thing about what many Serbians think vs how it is...his father was the most gentle person, never hated anyone and a very religious man. as I had mentioned to you before, when the majority of Ustase signed up they never did so to murder, it was for their right to freedom, thats how we perceive it. some young Croats salute (like Hitler), they glorify the wrongdoings...I was always taught that is disgraceful..."if you know who you are then you should accept others"...no need to hate anyone! when my friends father died 6 years ago, that Serbian kid (now 46) attended the funeral with his parents, with that said I have a hard time understanding the perception most Serbian people have!?!?
I will never go back to Mostar (where I played soccer), I heard it is completely divided...I just dont want to see hatred!
