Truth, there is a big difference between back door secret meetings and Internationaly mediated Negotiations. In one type of meeting only the devil knows what is being discussed, in the other opponents go into a well publicized meeting and try to hash out an agreement that their governments have been consulted on

Isn't the problem also party due to Serbian mentality (as well as the mentality of many Balkan people) that they do not have a sense of solidarity in society.
By this I mean caring for the whole of the society and not only about the greater good of the family and maybe close friends?
As far as I have witnessed Serbs do not lack personal solidarity but (unfortunately) a sense of solidarity in society.
This especially holds true, in my humble opinion, in the case of the political elite and all these individuals who get installed as directors or whatever in public companies after any kind of election as reward for their support.
The problem is probably that Serbs in general have rather limited opportunities in finding jobs since there are few offered (especially in private enterprises that are not subsidized by the government).

Just a thought...any comments?

Cheers

Hi Mirel, the current Government is a coalition and several parties must comprimise in order for anything to get done. The major party the SNS is polling well and hopes to form a majority, and obliterate some opposition parties that no one supports. If they wait for the regular election time, they might not do as well. A big plus is that the Government will be more stable and there will be more certianty in policy direction, a big minus is that their will be a less powerful opposition.

Critics feel it is an expensive political game where politicians gain and a poor country in debt up to its ears has to pay for an extra election while its government stops functioning for a couple of months before and probably about a month after the election. The critics are not wrong either.

I read 'party backed' as being more than just an expansion of the public sector.

It is a major fault of Serbian politics that parties give jobs to their chronies. It is the payment they make for the support they get - using public money.

This is major scale corruption and I invite B92 to write the names involved in every job change that originates from a new party coming to power.

This happens at every level. Typical example: an established social worker managing a successful department suddenly is side-lined and a party member now runs the department.

I invite other posters to report examples the know of and the names of the politicians involved.

Can you guys enlight me why Serbia is enetering new elections?
As far as I can see the majority is not in danger and the gonverment has solid numbers in Parliament.
So why hold elections this year and not when are due?
Thanks in advance!

Tadic gathering of former Democrats who want to be leaders and always they ask, trying to get at any price return to power, though one rose from the same people. Nothing new to the Democratic Party because it is doing bad for years, and each time all less organized and more like a big company.

These people never cease to amaze me. How much longer is this Tadic guy going to want his snout in the trough? It's not a change of name that's required it's his exit from politics that would best serve the Serbian people. Incidentally how does he finance these manoeuvres? Just thought I'd ask.

"...whereas more than 50,000 party-backed individuals have obtained employment in the public sector over the past year"

It means Serbia is adapting to European habits - unfortunately, these are only the Greek habits (bloating the public sector with members of the ruling parties) which will eventually fire back, one day.

I wonder how much money the EU and the USA are putting in their pockets. Well from what I have seen of Tadic and the rest of his scum,it doesn't take much to BUY THESE TRAITORS...go to HELL!

SNS will win whatever you do Tadić, people got sick of you.... try to understand this. Plus what you offer is exactly what SNS offers... but the election will be a fierce one I must admit!

It's been a long while since I posted anything. The Democratic Front are all the sellouts, Tadic, Cedomir, Cacak, etc. Put them in power and say so long to Serbia.

When it was revealed that Tadic and Thaci met secretly, all Serbs were up in arms. Now that Dacic has had 22 lunches/dinners with Thaci, no one is saying a word. I am still trying to figure Serbs out!
