Serbs saw themselves as victims too.

However wrong Serbian behaviours in Bosnia and to a lesser extent in Kosovo, there was an underlying case that the Serbs see as lost largely due to the actions of outside forces and immigrant ungratefuls.
(Bob, 28 January 2014 04:59)

You are correct, dear. The horrors that happened are because Serbs SAW stuff that did not happen. That's what happens when people are fed with myths... they start to see weird things.

Don't forget that many Serbs were very fed up with Albanians taking financial support when they moved out of Albania because of the mess there, and subsequently sought to 'acquire' (steal) the land that the Serbs had as an integrated part of their own territory. Don't forget too that Croatia (and to an extent Bosnia) behaved badly too - habits well illustrated several times in history. Serbs saw themselves as victims too.

However wrong Serbian behaviours in Bosnia and to a lesser extent in Kosovo, there was an underlying case that the Serbs see as lost largely due to the actions of outside forces and immigrant ungratefuls. The breakup of Yugoslavia was caused by nationalistic selfishness on all sides - starting with Slovenia and extending on from there. The idea of cooperative discussion went out of the window far too early (as I understand it, probably thanks to Germany and to John Major's deal at Maastricht).

As a primitive war - the kind that went on through history - Serbia did not behave too unusually. The whole region (not just Serbia) has since had to come to terms with the human rights thinking that has been expanding since after WW2.

To me it seems as if the blaming of one side by the other and vice versa will get none of the countries bakc on their feet. HAlf of the news I read in Serbian newspapers are on Kosovo and half of what the politicians in Belgrade tak about is Kosovo. I don't want to be rude but I'm pretty sure that Serbia is facing bigger challanges such as the bad state of the economy and high unemployment rates as well as monopolistic criminals that rip off hard working Serbian people from their last money (my example are th e high retail prices for bad quality products in the stores. The political elite in Belgrade should first get its economy together and thus create jobs before getting lost on talks about the status of Kosovo. I know how important Kosovo is to many Serbs but for now the painful truth is that other than Serbia and maybe a handful of "important" countries (i.e. Spain) nobody cares about it.

Some of the commentators here said that its time to move on and unfortunately I believe that this is the only way for Serbia as well. There are seriously more pressing issues going wrong and the whole rhetoric on the status of Kosovo just serves the political elite in Belgrade to distract form the real issues that need to be tackled.

And to all commentators here that just like insulting eachother: you are not helping to improve relations between the people in teh region. Also to all Serb haters here: Serbs are, for the most part, beautiful and friendly people.

I wouldn't normally care, but there seems to be a backwash of Croats and Albanians who can't move on.
(Aura, 23 January 2014 15:55)

Serbs do the same, complain about Jasenovac or Turkish etc ( its justified you suffered its true) but in Democratic country you should be able to protest ( not by blocking roads, not allowing others to pass) but peacefully with a sign its a human right.

People still complain about Turks or Germans and have protests all the time ( Armenian genocide happened in 1900 more than 100 years ago but the pain is still vivid for those people) they protest in Paris, London US all the time.

Germans when you mention Nazi they feel shame and disgust truly, however ( I do not know you so I can not judge)some Serbs find excuses of why they did what they did in 1990's and this is why this seems to perpetually keep up with Serbia. I know many Serbs had nothing to do with it and want to move on - > but until victims feel its time you have to just live with it.

Yes Albanians and Croats are all the same – low life who has become obsessed with Serbia. The reason? The Albanians have discovered they will never be propped up again by Serbs while the Croats, to their horror, have finally come to the realisation that all their BS about Slovenia and Croatia keeping Serbia afloat in the old Yugoslavia was a myth.

Hold your horses there. There still has been no closure. That will start when you parliament ratifies a declaration saying that thousands of Albanian civilians were killed by Serb tanks and that they are sorry and they will never do it again. When that is done our side will follow with a similar gesture. Then a bilateral document on peaceful relations will be signed. Your side still has shown no remorse on an official level, let's not talk about on a wider social level. I know you can't wait to brush everything under the carpet but you have a lot of work and soul searching to do. Once you have done that then you can complain. Until then we will continuously remind the world of the crimes committed by your government in your name. Crimes for which the Serb society and government still has to repent. Hence the protests. As the aggressor Serbia is required to take the first sincere step towards reconciliation; asking for forgiveness.

rocky, you write your words as if serbs didn't suffer under albanian or croatian tyranny a mere 70 years ago. i don't recall, correct me if i'm wrong, that either of those once nazi satelite states paid for their transgressions. it would seem that they were rewarded actually.

however, the overall point has validity.
20 years ago serb aggression caused devestation, and many serbs were punished in accordance with international laws. 70 years ago serbs were victims of aggression by croatian and albanian forces, who didn't get punished under marshal tito's brotherhood policy.

perhaps it is time that albanians and croats and bosnians and serbs stop complaining about the other and get on with it, least the barbarism of ww2 be dredged back up and brought to light. a light i'm sure albanains and croats would like to see remian off.

Aura,

You know as well as I, there are thousands of Serb war criminals, the lower level types that did the actual killing and raping, still walking around freely in Serbia.I think you would agree these savages should be arrested and prosecuted by the Serbian gov't to show that Serbia is serious about joining the EU. Aura, you should lead this effort so as to demonstrate good faith. Only then will Albanians and Croats stop demonstrating for justice to be done.

We are often annoyed with Nikolle and Rocky and others, but the fact of the mattter is Serbia is at the center of Balkan life. It is truly the only relevant state. Whether they love Serbia, or hate it, it is all they can do but to participate in Serbian forums and read the Serbian news. Kosovastan has its own english language news sites, I've never been to them, because I don't care about their pretend country or their pretend news.
In short, even though we criticize it, B92 is a regional leader, a Serbian leader in news information and our Albanian neighbors can't seem to get enough. @ Aura,
There was a small protest of about 300 albanians who were not satisfy with the EC decision. They think EU was too soft on Serbia.I am pretty sure all of those 300 have someone close killed by serbs.
Whats the big deal about that? They have the right to protest, dont they?
The same thing did serbs when an albanian family open an exibition in Belgrade where they showed into pictures their suffering on 1999.

You tell albanians to mind their own business, but is Serbia who is doing everything they can,not to let albanians to "mind their own business".
Once Serbia gets less obssesed on Kosovo issue,it will be better for both Serbia and Kosovo.
Serbia will go forward with EU integration and K-alb will say Good bye to solders turn politicians,as they did before when Rugova was alive.

"Other" covers Kosovo, which means that the normalization of relations with Priština is brought in connection with the negotiations.

@Vulin aka MIB,
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU; " NORMALIZATION OF RELATIONS"???
Any takers!?

Morning- suffering is not exclusive to you. My point is clear- mind your own business. If you have a gripe, go to the EC. We want nothing to do with you. You sound like a reasonable person so can you understand that everyone in the region should get on with their own lives. Demonisation of Serbia has run it's course. I know it was fun for you while it lasted. Get another hobby. I wouldn't normally care, but there seems to be a backwash of Croats and Albanians who can't move on.
(Aura, 23 January 2014 15:55)

@ Aura,
There was a small protest of about 300 albanians who were not satisfy with the EC decision.

I thing the word "mind you own budiness" should be directed to Vulin,Pantic,Dacic,Nikolic,Vucic etc

Thanks for the debate!

All over they want Serbia, even in Brussells the protesters can't get enough of Serbia. In the EU all they want to talk about is Serbia. I don't know how this happened but at last it has

People can protest for what ever reason they like ( maybe some of those people are victims of Serbian operation and a lot of them were given asylum in Belgium), they took their time to protest nothing wrong with that.

Dont let people get under your skin so much Let Albanians and Croats live and let live as well if they feel like protesting let them be.

I know many Serbs had nothing to do with it and want to move on - > but until victims feel its time you have to just live with it.

its quite ironic though, that you don't want to see them, but you don't mind writing about them. be honest, you can't live with them

You are correct, dear. The horrors that happened are because Serbs SAW stuff that did not happen. That's what happens when people are fed with myths... they start to see weird things.
