Before WW2 Tito spent time in Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Finland and loads of places in Russia such as Omsk, St Petersburg, the Ural Mountains, Moscow and Kyrgyzstan. All these places will have influenced and affected the way he talked.

You said that Tito was a Croat and the reason he didn't sound like one is because he spent time in Russia etc.
If Tito was raised in Croatia he would not have lost his accent no matter where he went because as an adult you don't adopt other accents. You speak that foreign language with your own accent.

I am saying that he was a foreigner trying to speak Yugoslav but his accent gave him away.
What exactly are you saying now? Have you changed your mind about him being a Croat?

Your comments betray you PatriK,

Bosnia was no more the property of the Ottoman Empire than the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Is this hard to comprehend?

43% of population of Bosnia of the 1910 census was Serb, which you claim almost the whole population supported the annexation. A) they weren't consulted, b) it was a choice between different masters.

Hahahaha, you make me laugh.
If that was true then he would've had a Russian accent which he didn't.
How good are you at detecting which accent comes from where?
Have you heard him speak?
(Peggy, 9 January 2014 12:10)

Poor poor ignorant Peggy.

A Russian accent? Which one are you reffering to? Russia is a rather big place with hundreds of different accents and dialects.

As the conspiracy theory goes, he is Russian or Polish therefore he would have had an accent from either Russia or Poland wouldn't he? But our expect on everything Peggy has just proven that he didn't have a Russian accent.

Ian UK, Tito was not Croatian, he was Austrian or Hungarian. If you go back to WW1, the Austio-Hungarian empire had plans to take over Serbia and Tito was to run the corridor around Belgrade. They figured they would easily over run the Serbs and quickly take over the country. This was in WW1! That obviously never materialized. So it's ironic that he was to be in charge of Serbia after the invasion, and then after WW2 wound up running all of Yugoslavia. After seeing his communist rule, you realize he was brilliant at switching sides as necessary and an amazing politician...he knew how to look out for himself.
(Aleks, 8 January 2014 22:55)

I'm sorry, but I don't believe in your weak Conspiracy theory based on assumptions, not to mention that it lacks evidence and proof.

I don't dispute that Austria-Hungary wanted to further expand it's territory into the Balkans, but that says nothing for Tito's ethnicity.

Tito wasn't a Croat, he was a half Croat and a half Slovene.

Stealing Bosnia from its natives? It annexed Bosnia from the Ottomans, (those are not the natives) and the annexation of Bosnia was supported by almost the whole population because it was greatly beneficial for its citizens.

Patrik

pre 10 godina

Eh? Ian, I'm sorry but that is definitely not the case. WW1 could have been avoided, it was just the case of some country starting it, which i can guarantee that none of the nations with allied pacts would have started anything if it wasn't for the assassination. and when you said, "Assassination of Franz Ferdinand was an excuse for Austria-Hungary to kick start WW1." , sorry but how is that an excuse? Everyone knew that the Serbian government had hired Princip for the assassination, think about it. Who would benefit the least from Bosnia's annexation and who'd benefit the most? Serbia didn't support the annexation so they hired Princip for the assassination knowing it had Russia's back, and because of the Triple Entente in place, Serbia was pretty much safe.
and how is the assassination of Franz an excuse? No nation would stand by after the assassination of their heir.

An open letter to Captain Crackpot Lenny
Firstly Tito was not a Croat – even the CIA said so in recently released documents that date back to the late 1940s. Tito could not speak the language and the excuse was while in Russia he forgot Serbo-Croat. Tito went to see his mother only once, the women said “who is this man? He is not my son”. Tito never returned to his “place of birth”.
Franjo Tudgman started his career as an Ustasha and when things went bad he jumped ship and became a communist. When the war started the vast majority with Tito were local Serbs, but towards the end Croats joined. To prove his loyalty Franjo killed the Ustashi at Bleiberg LOL how ironic eh?
Yes Nedic was with the Germans but the vast majority of Serbs were against them from the start. Try telling that about Crots.
I have a copy of the first translation into English “Na Drini Cuprija” which was done by Lovett F. Edwards, a journalist and he interviewed Andric. When Edwards was asked about Andric’s ethnic background. He said “Dr Ivo Andric is himself a Serb and a Bosnian”. Andric said that to Edwards. I know Andric is of mixed background, but if he sees himself as a Serb or sympathises with Serbs and decides to live in Belgrade and be a member for the Serbian Academy of Sciences and die in Belgrade then who am I to say no Ivo Andric is not a Serb. In his book he called Croats “kuferashi” – vagabonds or interlopers.

Oh, the enlightend slavery of Austria-Hungary!

They annexed (a fancy word for stealing) Bosnia from the natives in 1908, so it is not at all surprising that they would be prepared to slaughter huge numbers of the local slavs to keep hold of it.

What could possibly be more civilized or reasonable than that? Only a fool would disagree. After all, Austria-Hungary had no substantial colonies abroad of black people so sub-human balkan slavs would have to do.

It's all so terribly unreasonable of the slavs. That's what the British would be taught, but they prefer to teach their history in an disassociated, antiseptic way and lie by omission. After all, British intentions are always good and they've only slaughtered people for their own good or by accident (Francis Younghusband's behavior in Tibet where those silly Tibetans were mown down by British Maxim guns!).

The British and their allies stopped Russia during the Crimean War from kicking out the Ottomans and also along with the French they bailed out the bankrupt Ottoman Empire and set up the first Ottoman Bank to keep it going (long enough for the Germans to take over the reins when the ever growing accounts of mass murder by the the Ottomans of Armenians become to inconvenient politically to ignore). No one seems to be interested in the millions who died because of national Empire policy, but guess who writes the histories?

Haha, so what is in the letter? Why waste so many words to just say there is a letter. What kind of article is this?

Regarding Gavrilo Princip story, I still cannot understand how people (like Kusturica) still glorify him. Killing a high dignitary of a big and powerful nation was bound to have repercussions. Even worse, knowing that everybody is preparing for war, why do you want to be the one to strike and receive the first blow? Really Serbia why? Why not let Austria and Hungary start its fight with some other pretext with some other country, Italy for example? Imagine what would happen today, if somebody even tried to do something like that to the US or Russia or Germany and it was evident that secret services were involved.

Haha this is basic Children's history!

In the UK, children are taught in History at Primary School (ie before the age of 11) that WW1 would have happened regardless of the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand.

Children are taught that the situation in Europe during the run up to WW1 (with the arms race and military pacts ect) was a Boiling Pot waiting to boil over and that the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand was an excuse for Austria-Hungary to kick start WW1.

It really isn't a surprise that Austria-Hungary had plans for War when they knew that War was inevitable, they'd be stupid not to have had plans. And I bet all the other major powers in Europe at the time, had plans for War as well.

Same old serbian attempts to whitewash their own history and and blame others. Fact is that serbian history is marked by bloodthirthy rulers and nationalistic behavior. It is funny how these so called serb historians always come up with these fabricated stories and how easily big parts of the public fall for it, and by doing so are sucked into a trap of lies. Especially the recent serb history is full of this kind of stories.
What Serbia needs is something like the Auschwitz trials Germany went through in the early 60's, when all the horrible things Gerrmany did to the jews all over Europe came out in the open. People couldn't close their eyes any more and had to face it, and learned a lot through this process. But I am afraid that Serbia under the rule of the gravedigger is lightyears away from anything comparable, but it is desperatly needed if Serbia wants to become a part of the free Europe.

This nonsense of Andrićgrad the name of the town is Višegrad Bosnia. He was a Croatian noble prize winner Ivo Andrić that Serbs are trying to steal as usual because they have nothing to be proud of. It is a another criminal act of "Srpska" entity one of many. That Bosnia is taking Dodo to court and the fictitious "Srpska" aka greater war mongering criminal Serbia in criminally occupied Bosnia. Only Serbs making enemies as usual and stirring up trouble. The ever innocence "heavenly people" perpetual victim of their own myriad criminality's of foolishness's I give you the delusional Serbs.

Ya because Serbs murdered 6 million people like you Nazis did right? That of course is assuming you really are German which I doubt. No sorry, Nuremburg is only reserved for the violent and hate-filled Germans, nobody else. Unless of course, your puppet state Croatia which is practically little Germany and was born out of Nazism, concentration camps and genocide.

Imagine what would happen today, if somebody even tried to do something like that to the US or Russia or Germany and it was evident that secret services were involved.

weird non-sequitor Ari.

No one in Germany denies their country's past.

@Ian. True. Who learns that Serbia was the cause (rather than catalyst) of WWI? This is weird Serbian fighting something that doesn't exist.

I just read "The Sleepwalkers" by Christopher Clark who in detail describes the situation in Europe on the eve of WW1. And I disagree with statement in the article that he blames (solely) Serbia and Russia as responsible for the war. If you read his book aou will find out that in all governments of major countrie of then Europe there was warmongers and peacedoves as well. Finally the warmongers won. Hence the content of this letter is no surprise to me but it gives a false picture only to see this and not to see the whole context.

That declassified CIA document is weak. It basically says that Tito isn't a Croat/ Yugoslav because he spoke Serbo-Croatian with a 'foreign accent'. But having speant so much time in Russia, his accent was bound to have changed.

My accent changed for having lived in North Wales for three years.

Look at this interview of Joey Barton (a Scouser) speaking with a French accent have only been in France a few months:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgVZLuJ6Skk

And yes, Tito's mother supposedly couldn't remember him, but then again, she did have some form of dementia.

You just choose to believe this very weak conspiracy theory because you're racist and you don't want Tito being associated with Croatia or Croats.

Patrik

pre 10 godina

Have you heard him speak?

EU DUDE,

Stealing Bosnia from its natives? It annexed Bosnia from the Ottomans, (those are not the natives) and the annexation of Bosnia was supported by almost the whole population because it was greatly beneficial for its citizens.

EU Dude

pre 10 godina

Poor poor ignorant Peggy.

A Russian accent? Which one are you reffering to? Russia is a rather big place with hundreds of different accents and dialects.

As the conspiracy theory goes, he is Russian or Polish therefore he would have had an accent from either Russia or Poland wouldn't he? But our expect on everything Peggy has just proven that he didn't have a Russian accent.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe in your weak Conspiracy theory based on assumptions, not to mention that it lacks evidence and proof.

I don't dispute that Austria-Hungary wanted to further expand it's territory into the Balkans, but that says nothing for Tito's ethnicity.

Tito wasn't a Croat, he was a half Croat and a half Slovene.
