Ignorance of what, Roger7? You can just say someone is ignorant of something without saying what?

As soon as priests stray from their job - lighting candles, waving their arms and mumbling incantations - and start making political statements, then they (try) to become (unelected) politicians.

If they stray into this field then people shouldn't hide behind the dresses they wear and cry about saying bad things about a 'religious" figure

Serbian patrijahar Irenaeus took a opportunity of Christmas letter to a political attack on Croatia. No wonder there is sick behavior from a nation of Serbia, if the church the day of the birth of the savior Jesus proclaims day of endangered Serbs. Endangered Serbs since the nineties, killed 17,000 Croats in Croatia and 27,000 non-Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Perhaps he thought endangered non Serbs...

njegos

pre 10 godina

Rocky, Nikolle, et al, So you don't like Irinej's Christmas message to Serbs? Too bad! The message was to his people, not his oppressors. And if memory serves me correctly, his predecessor, Patriarch Pavle, never spoke a word of criticism against anyone. He only encouraged peace and harmony. Where did that get the Serbs? Savage Albanians went on to destroy more than 150 churches in Kosovo and attack innocent Serb civilians at every opportunity and continue to do so. Now that a man of the clergy is telling the truth, you find fault with that. Again I say, too bad!

Rocky, your statement that Kosovo Albanians drove Serb terrorists from Kosovo is laughable. And stating that Albanians drove the Ottomans from Kosovo is even more laughable. Kosovo is currently run by Albanian terrorists. There is no rule of law there and it is the control point of heroine distribution for all of Europe. And Albanians embraced the Ottomans and converted to Islam in droves rather than oppose the Ottoman occupiers. As usual, they took the easy way out.

And finally, Albanian claims of Illyrian heritage is pure fabrication. I guess when you don't have any history to speak of, you try to steal someone else's.

Dragan from Toronto is correct in saying that Serbs are coming together in the face of adversity. Serb churches across North America and the world will be filled with worshippers this Christmas and the message from our clergy will be echo what Irinej has said.

marKo

pre 10 godina

Naim, I disagree with you but I think I can see what you are getting at. I think you would prefer churchman to make positive messages and not get mired in politics. That is easier said than done. Above all the patriarch is just a man and he has a right to voice his oppinions just as you do. I don't see hate in his message, I see that he is defending the human rights of his flock, acknowledging terrible things that have happened to them and telling them to "live in peace, harmony and love, both with each other and everyone else."
What can be better advice? Acknowledge the past and then let the past go and do your best going forward. If we all did that, we could start working on the real problems and rebuild the region

"In his epistle, Patriarch wonders why the ideologists of independent Montenegrin Orthodox Church do not require a similar thing from the Roman Catholic Church as well, and ask it to move its seat from Vatican to Montenegro."

My god, a man of religion who doesn't have the base of understanding how churches are organized?

So, to tell you, dear Mr. Patriarch:
1. The roman catholic church is a centralized church, its seat is Vatican, for all catholics in the world, with one pope (the pope) as its head.

2. The orthodox churches are independent and not centralized. There is a Russian orthodox church with seat in Russia, a Greek orthodox church with seat in Greece, a Serbian orthodox church with seat in ... guess where? Serbia! And why shouldn't be there an independent Montenegrin orthodox church with seat in Montenegro and an own Patriarch?

men of God never disappoint. surely the head of an organisation that allegedly is pious, should try and talk about inter-ethnic harmony and voice his hopes for peaceful co-existence? why not mention the mass grave that was found in Serbia recently and say you need to admit to your sins? for centuries you've been robbed you say? dear me, what pathetic victim mentality but then I expect nothing more from the cradle of Serbian stupidity.

Unfortunately, Serbs and their Church have to come to terms with the diminishing role and influence in Balkans. There is no more a Serbian empire or a Yugoslavia (modern version of Serbian empire). Nobody, particularly, cares about Serbia (besides neighborly relations). Serbia has neither economical, nor military might to impose its will to anyone. These are facts. Sooner is understood and accepted, better for Serbian people.

Uses his faith to do a political play. You should sent a message for peace to all your people-not hate. For me as Albanian you bark as much ax you like it's all b... Sh.,.t it's for ghe sake of your own people what message they would get and what would they think in this christmass.. Happy christmass you old man

Brandon,

Your opinion is not worth the salt, ink or magnitude of a finger depressing on a keyboard. Serbia and Serbs, have endured this B.S. way too many times in history. Guess what? We've arose from the proverbial phoenix' ashes and grew stronger many times, and we will do it again. As for waning strength or influence - that's not the case. Actually the strength of the Church has grown in all the war torn areas, as people look to it far more - case in point the RS and Northern Kosmet. Further, the Church congregations in the diaspora are very strong- here in the Toronto area - for this coming Orthodox Christmas - there will be hundreds packing the churches. We've withstood many golgothas, colonial/conquests, trials and tribulations and battles, but our faith in god has always stood fast and strong

I agree that it's a bit inappropriate to use a Christmas message to once again lament about victimhood and oppression, but you have to admit it's a wee bit difficult to embrace multicultural tolerance when most of your neighbors are still engaging in inbred racism without the slightest interest in reconciliation or collective soul searching for the crimes committed in their own names. Maybe if Croats and Kosovo Albanians act a little more, well, "European" towards their Serbian communities in the next 12 months the Christmas 2015 message will be a more optimistic.

Just a thought. Far be it from me to tell you darlings of the Balkans how to live.

njegos

pre 10 godina

Avni

pre 10 godina

Does the head of Serbian church asks itself, clergy and Serbs why nobody likes them and why wherever Serbs live with others there are problems. Maybe because even God isn't buying his "jokes" anymore. I personally believe that God has stopped listening to Serbs long time ago.
How can the head of Serbian church complain when the same church has supported Sloba's regime and wars against non Serbs? How can a person pretending to be a man of God can talk politics daily. He needs to register SPC as a political party. After that we wouldn't mind him talking nonsense.

Their church was one of the main driving forces in the genocides of the 90s. they have no intention of apologizing for any or all of the 100s of ensuing mass graves, since their ideology promoted them, lied about them, justified them. and now they are utterly silent about all of their evil, just Oh how we suffer in kosovo-mejohije. I mean, is it a religion or is it a sickness, das ist die frage...

Pay no attention to Rocky Cimaj. He's an impotent little Albanian imp who spends all day on his parent's computer trolling sites like this. Like most Albanian 12 year olds, or Albanian adults with the maturity of a 12 year old, he jerks off to Albanian hate nationalism on YouTube but he'd soil his little pants at the sight of a Serb. He's one of the dumbest Albanian trolls out there. Go search for his YouTube account and look for his comments. Amazing someone wastes their life like he does.

Dragan,
It's irrelevant what you think about my opinion, or what you wish Serbia will be. Look at the facts. Serbia is in no position to threaten anyone. I believe this is good for the region, and for Serbia itself. The persue of lost empires brought Serbia to its knees. I beleive that any ideology that pushes toward the same goal, it's pure madness (Doing the same thing expecting different results).
