Each to his own and each for his own, while obviously not forgetting about relatively recent history, where chauvinism and ultra-nationalism brought Europe to its knees and straight into the laps of the USA and USSR/Russia.

Yes Peter, I agree with the sentiment and I guess most people would but man is greedy and power hungry which means many small countries rely on a big country to shield them somewhat. This all translates into having to unite in some way with that country.
Relinquishing some sovereingty for benefiting economically or by feeling more seque is the price to pay.
If we could rely on politicians to share our sentiment of live and let live we could all enjoy total sovereingty.

Ukraine is a Russian land

That's up to the Ukrainians, not you, not "history"

BTW, how many Ukrainians died this century because of Russian policy? I forget.

Aha. Est. 100.000 people protesting on the streets of Kiev this afternoon and evening against the government's decision. Police are beating them as I write this.

Ukraine will not lose sleap over EU being disapointed, stay close to Russia that is the right place to be, and other balkan countries should mover closer to Russia.

The Time of Troubles was 400 years ago. I really think it's time for Russia to move on. Since then, it was us that was hit with no less than three Russian invasions since then, first under Tsarina Catherine, then under Lenin and then under Stalin. It was us languishing under Russian imperial rule and later under communism brought by Moscow, not the other way around. Of course a result of such an existence over the last four hundred years, it has been in our interest to weaken you in the interest of self-preservation. It was us, who disappeared from the face of Europe no less than twice thanks to you and the Germans, not you.

And just to correct you, it was us who refused Hitler's common pact against the USSR, not him refusing us. But you knew that. ;)

Lastly, I admit that Poland has acted out of imperialist aggression towards the Ukraine in the past, but Russians are truly the last people on earth, who can accuse us of this. I think it is up to the Ukrainian people to decide what they want, though after talking to enough Ukrainians about history and geopolitics, I can safely say that they would be, to put it VERY lightly, less than enthusiastic to ever go under Moscow's influence again as Malorussia province in the Russian Empire, as no doubt many Russians would want.

Russia is big enough with enough of its own issues first than trying to rebuild old empires. Let Ukraine do what they feel is right, as a sovereign state.

Peter I am sorry for the last post of mine. I should not have put salt into the old injuries. But today on this forum only we two understand what has really happened in the Ukraine. Even B92 has been paying no attention to this great event to change the balance of power in Europe. I guess the mass media were given the command not to notice the greatest deal. I also know how disappointed are those whom you call the EUSSR and that it’s a mourning day in Poland now. But I also know that Poles do not care the Ukraine that your only target is to weaken Russia. This time you were short of hands. You know I watched the Ukrainian TV channels last months. All the European missioners were lied all days through but Kwasnewski was the champ !

Next were the emissaries from beggar Micro Baltic states and Bulgaria. The whole chorus advertised prosperity to the Ukraine and nobody told the truth that they all cared was Russia. Democracy and other pretexts were just a cover. As for the Poles your biggest problem last 400 years was that you always overestimated your role and your power. All because of the golden 16-th century of yours that is over long ago. You tried to seize Russia and wash your boots in the Japan Sea. Then you joined any coalition that went to fight Russia. With one exclusion in 1939 when Hitler rejected your offer to join him in his eastern campaign. Now you try to forget that the Ukraine is a Russian land so we have to remind it to you. Chao !

EU bureaucrats telling 'The Opposition' (TM) to unite in Brussels favor?

The meddling by over paid Brussels bureaucrats in other democratic countries is a bad disease and an addiction. Will he be supporting the coming attempts to force another color revolution, as some opps are now pushing for?

We'll see in the next few days and weeks how nasty Brussels will decide to be because it can. How much wind, and how much heat?

It is sad that the world has to divide itself into blocs into which countries feel obliged to have to be part of at the cost of relations with others. I perosnally say to hell with both the EU and with the Russian-led union. Neither of them are beneficial to Ukraine or any other country in Europe. I am every day more and more for SOVEREIGNTY of every single European nation, with no more than free trade, military and scientific cooperation in perhaps a loose confederation of European states, but none of this centralized Brussels-run EUSSR "state" of subsidized oscialist semi-autonomous republics, nor a Moscow-led union with satellite states in an aim to achieve another Russian Empire/USSR! Ukraine should remain neutral, while all states currently in the dying and increasingly more autocratic EU as well as Belarus with their Moscow stranglehold should leave their respective unions and put their nations' interests above anything else, while cooperating and coexisting with other soveriegn and truly independent European states for mutual benefit. Never again should Europe be made of states under Washington's or Moscow's imperial grips as little pawns in their geopolitical modern-day "great game". Each to his own and each for his own, while obviously not forgetting about relatively recent history, where chauvinism and ultra-nationalism brought Europe to its knees and straight into the laps of the USA and USSR/Russia.

May Ukraine be the first truly independent state in Europe!
