EU tells Serbia to drop GMO ban in order to join WTO
The European Commission has told Serbia that it should change its laws on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in order to join the World Trade Organization.
GMO-Free could be a trade mark of Serbian food. People around the world would pay a premium for such food. Should Serbia change its wise laws at the diktat of the EU? Definately not. Will it change its laws? Almost certainly yes.

Dear MT. Note that the article is about letting our Monsanto supergrain enter Serbia, not about your p**sy grain to leave it. We welcome your alternative though, Serbia should produce non GMO vegetables. We will set the price it will be sold however, since we control all borders with Serbia.

NoGMO. I trust scientists everytime I drive my car, or turn on a light switch. The GMO stuff has been tested safe, and I believe it is safe. What I don't believe is that people want it.
I don't think any buyer would prefer to eat food that has been engineered and has to be tested. No one ever had to test my parent's garlic or tomatos. The food they raised was grown naturally and traditionally and there was never any point where a government scientist had to come and say "yep that is a tomato, and it is safe, congratulations".
I think if a scientist has to come and say that, then most people probably rather not buy that damn thing if the real thing is available:)

Serbs will have to get used to such form of relations. It's very easy as you don't need to think. Just do what you are told to as if you has just joined the army. They will inject poison in small portions so that the client can survive. But in the end you will find neither Serbia nor what is called independance. P.S. By the way same will happen to the Albanians as soon as the West crashes down Serbian will to resist. All their history is based on treasons and betrayals. Spiritally Muslims are even worse for them than the Othodox. So in the long run they need no Troyan Horse on the continent.
So, we are to sell food unless it is proven "beyond dispute that it is harmful".
Should it not be the opposite? Should we not grow and sell food that we know to be safe? It may take generations before we can agree "beyond dispute" that GMO is harmful. By then we are likely to have polluted soil and generations of people with damaged health. Similar is already seen with tobacco. GMO is potentially with much deeper consequences.
Serbia must stop it in any way that it can.

A simple solution. Serbia buys a small island or a very remote territory, has some very complicated red tape and eventually (if necessary) grows GMO there. Ergo it is not banned but restricted.
As mentioned by another poster, Serbs don't want GMO. There is a significant and growing European market in organic food produce that Serbia should cater too. These are middle classes that are willing to pay more.

I suggest any GMO has to go through a beurocracy to be approved, and the beurocracy should take YEARS to review it, only to request more information from the applicants. The US uses this approach to immigration applicants and it works great at keeping people out
