Considering that you are Australian of Serbian descent and not really part of the Serbian nation, nor endure anything that Serbs in Serbia do, basically none of what you say is true.
And blaming events in the 1940's for the reason people are unhappy in 2013, you only prove his point not disprove it
We have been victims over and over. We are surrounded by enemy and you think that's something to be happy about?
We are a strong nation and we always pick ourselves up eventually but each time it has to take longer and longer because attack on us never cease.

Make up your mind, dear... Which statement is true ? The first or the second? I don't mind entertaining whatever your propaganda is, just make up your mind and choose one of the propaganda. Serbs are either the victims or the machos of the Balkans; they can't be both.
Btw, are you an Albanian who grew up in Hoxha's times in Albania? He used to tell Albanians that they were "surrounded by enemy" and that's why they were heroic :)
Ian, serbs are not like englishhmen or westerners. They dont have to wait for the weekend and then go and drink their heads off on a friday or saturday. If you ever go to Serbia you can visit any city you want and go out on a weekday and all you will see is full cafées, restaurants and clubs filled with Beautiful people and smiles on their faces. If you ever go to Belgrade you will be able to experience a nightlife that is out of this world in a city that never sleeps. I suggest you try that and then we will see if you still Think that serbs are unhappy.

Life is cheap - bloodshed led to more bloodshed and extreme cruelty, lack moral role models, pornography. The values, the ideals, customs, traditions and institutions. The basic principles, standards and judgments about what was valuable or important in life declines. The total disregard for human and animal life results in a lack of ethics - a perverted view of what was right and wrong, good and bad, desirable and undesirable. Any conformity to acceptable rules or standards of human behavior is being lost.

What does Serbia have to be happy about? Unemployment, Political Leaders government are worthless, state assets are plundered, Criminals and amoral behavior accepted, lazy intellectuals, phonographic art, drinking, dissolution of families, the new mentality where there is no fixed truth.
This survey is a load of hogwash. I'm Serbian and I am happier than anyone I know from any other ethnic group.Why you ask? The reason is simple it's because I'm Serbian and I love it !!!!!!!!! I was told long ago that the main cause of unhappiness was having expectations of life that were unrealistic. In theory Bosnians, Macedonians and Albanians should be unhappier than Serbs being that they are poorer and have even less reason to be optimistic and yet they are not; according to this survey at least. Do Serbs believe that life has treated them harshly and continues to do so whilst the others mentioned are just grateful to be at peace for once? Only Serbs can answer this but as someone with many Serb friends the results of the survey surprise me. They are always involved in some sort of celebration; drinking, singing and carousing!!
However if the findings look more positive from other aspects like happyness of the poore maybe your article should be renamed in ''Serbs maybe uhappiest poor nation'' but as to improve into a happy wealthy nation this fact of unhappyness may not keep the nation to carry on striving for the better. One can lament and lament others go to look for business even if a small one or study autodidact.

The days of Serb corporate executives drinking coffee for a 4 hour period in the local coffee shop while they should be working and relying on neighbouring countries to send profits straight to Beograd are over. The Serbs now have to actually work for their worthless dinar. 50 years of Tito-ism was good for the Serbs but it taught them nothing. Serbia now is struggling economically and politically. Losing 4 wars in a 10 year period doesn't help. War veterans are treated like garbage with low pensions and no clinical support. The avrerage citizen earns 300 euro a month which is the lowest in the region. With invidual and class action law suits against Serbia due to the Balkan wars, Serbia will need a miracle to get back on its feet. Thats why the former radicals of Nikolic & Vucic are turning to the left as they dam well know that without the E.U Serbia may as well pack up their belongings and move to mother Russia.
