Croatia does not fit your definition of a "paying western country" whereas Germany certainly does and if it suits the Russians they will do just that as would the Americans if there was a point to be made. The trouble you speak of involving unreliable transit countries was Poland and the Ukraine but after the pipeline was taken via the sea no more trouble with Poland and after the freedom loving politicians lost power in the Ukraine no more trouble there.
This is where you have missed the point. Serbia will not stop gas passing through its territory via the main gas line to the west but it will control the branch lines going to Croatia RS Macedonia etc..

Building small hydro power stations will not harm the fish or the eco system as you can easily construct fish ladders which allow aquatic life to move up and down the river system.

If the Russians are building these natural gas thermo electric plants in Croatia then you will buy their gas and not your own. I’ll tell you about Croatia’s gas – it’s obtain from a process called fracking.

Through Hungary so after connecting if you not nice off goes the gas and crash goes Croatia.
(sj, 24 July 2013 05:02) Fish ladders don't work where ever they youse them the fish population drops 90-95% down killed by the turbines. Its only criminal electrical Co's proganda. We get our gas from the Adriatic Sea gas pumped on to rig platforms no evile Fck fracking. KGB Putin Kremlin will be pissed if any one turns off the gas to their two hydro plants they are building in Croatia. As we now dont need Russian natural gas for our needs and all that transit fees throuhg so many countries. Even transit fees are regulated by Russia as your dumb goverment sighned their rights to a Russian shelll Co just recently. Serbia even if it could raise the transit fees would piss off the Kremlin their thermal hydro plants electricity would be very expensive to produce no one would buy it. So you see Serbia controls nothing it gave all of its rights to KGB infested Kremlin. Just wonder how much the Serb politicans are getting in kick backs in a another horrendus rip off deal for Serbias citizens.

Off goes the gas? I have to disappoint you, Russia never turned off the gas to their western paying customers. The trouble we had with gas pipelines from Russia has been caused by unreliable transit countries. It was smart of Germany to avoid these problems by having the North Stream pipeline arrangement which bypasses any transit country.
South stream won't be problematic, neither, since Russian owns the pipeline, either directly or via one of their companies (like Gazprom Serbia), so there's will be problems with unreliable transit countries like Serbia.

I see you’re off you pills again. Building small hydro power stations will not harm the fish or the eco system as you can easily construct fish ladders which allow aquatic life to move up and down the river system. In fact hydro power is the cheapest and cleanest form of electricity generation.

If the Russians are building these natural gas thermo electric plants in Croatia then you will buy their gas and not your own. I’ll tell you about Croatia’s gas – it’s obtain from a process called fracking and they use chemicals such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenezene and xylene which makes your water in village wells poisonous.

Croatia will only get a supply line while the main pipe will go through Hungary so after connecting if you not nice off goes the gas and crash goes Croatia.

LOL...yeah Lenard, you Croats are going to be an energy superpower...pleeease. The only thing you're a superpower at is licking German boots and shinging Klaus's shoes. It's the only thing you're known for and the only thing you know to do, facts are facts. You'll be paying Serbia expensive transit fees for South Stream gas, so save those Euros!

Cheers!!

"This is fantastic. Serbia is rich with hydropower, and should definitely utilize this for sustainable, affordable, energy, which will increase the standard of living of all residents (and attract industry). "
(Dragan, 23 July 2013 15:36)

Sure, affordable. As far as I know, the investors will get a granted price for selling the produced electricity, which is, unfortunately, higher than the price the Serbian consumers pay. So either the loss will be covered by the EPS/the state, or the electricity prices will further raise.

Dragan it will kill the fishies and eco system of the waters. The ever poorer Serbs at least could catch a protien rich fish and eat it. The so called progress lot of times is big steps backward. Croatia will not be buying the power from Serbia or the ever poorer Balkan states. Russians are building natural gas thermo electric plants in Croatia. As Croatia has its own natural gas fields for all its needs. So south stream gas to Croatia will supply Russian thermo plants. Serbia cant even charge good transit fees as even the transit fees in Serbia is run by a Russian shell company working out of Switzerland controled by the KGB infested Kremlin.

'Also on Monday, Mihajlović signed memorandums on the construction of 49 small hydropower plants on the territory of Ivanjica with 28 investors, more than half of whom are foreigners, but also with nine more investors on the construction of 11 small hydropower plants in the municipality of Arilje.

Investments into small hydropower plants in Ivanjica will bring RSD 4 million a year, 60 percent of which will go to the state budget. Arilje's budget should get around RSD 800,000 a year in water payments, the minister said.'

This is fantastic. Serbia is rich with hydropower, and should definitely utilize this for sustainable, affordable, energy, which will increase the standard of living of all residents (and attract industry). This, along with South Stream, will turn Serbia into an energy powerhouse in the Balkans. We can sell this energy to our 'wonderfull' neighbours and charge them extra for it. That's how it's done folks, real progress.

Cheers!!
