That's because the Russians don't allow Serbian politicians to pillage NIS, plain and simple.

Winston. This is why it was better when there was just one party.

Bottom line, public companies in Serbia have been used by politicians to finance their parties - that is why they stick their dedicated people in positions of leadership in these companies. There is no reason for Serbiagas to run such a huge deficit, or the Serbian railroad, which is pretty much in shambles and dated beyond ridiculous. Whatever enterprise was in the hands of the government, has been raped and pillaged. The only solution, privatization of all public companies, so as to keep politicians' sticky fingers out of their tills.

It all comes down to politics and management. Government should stay out of running businesses and companies should be run by people who are the qualified. All too often companies, especially state run enterprises are run by persons who are inept, corrupt and lazy. Private companies fair much better, despite the economic situation because for them it is do or die.
