Paul,
It is absolutely unbelievable that someone would expect Serbia to agree to something and actually do it! I guess to you Serbia should NEVER be held to their word.
Most of the people do not think of agreeing to do something and then doing it as 2 separate requirements.

NOTO EU

Lenard you are about as funny as Bubonic Plague and as for the others who seem to think ordinary Serbians care about the EU think again. The only reason the political classes want to join is so that they can have another cash cow to milk and another trough to put their snouts in. That institution is corrupt from top to bottom. Only anarchy can save the working classes from these parasites.

Serbia initialed an agreement. The EU said they signed it and everyone went along with that. Serbia decided, yes, it had signed the agreement. Did they get a date for accession? No. Now they have to "implement" the agreement. Are the Albanians fretting over this? No. They don't have to do anything, just sit around waiting for the EU to tell them what they are going to get. Maybe they won't get what they want, but given the way things have been going so far, how likely is that?

Two things will screw this up for the last time. Serbia will be given more ultimatums that it will not bend over for. Or, Serbia will agree to the ultimatums and they still don't get either an accession date or admission into the EU at all. It is up to the EU to screw things up at this point, Serbia has little to lose.

(Mircea EU citizen, 16 May 2013 11:35) I think the question should be witch stugling impoverished goat herding Orthodox country will have the honour of being first kiked out of the EU. Greece, Romania ,Bulgaria or hopefull expectent Serbia. Now that I put it that way I realise you four of a kind have so much in common. Seriously I have nothing against the goats I do like feta cheese in my salad.

If Serbia gets the talks date in June it can join the EU with Montenegro or even before because if you check the EC assessment of Serbia on the current alignment with the Acquis and you compare to Montenegro's assessment you will notice that Serbia is ahead in most chapters to be discussed on EU standards. Read the Wikipedia article on "accession of Serbia to the EU" and that of Montenegro to see for yourself. As for the other countries no way any would join before Serbia or Montenegro.

God willing the EU will be long dead before Serbia meets its endless membership requirements.

Don't worry, Mircea EU serf, when the EU is gone you can travel to Serbia for some fruit picking. It doesn't pay much but it's healthy work.

Croatia will join the EU on 1 July.

Which country has the best chance of joining the EU after Croatia?

1. Montenegro
2. Macedonia
3. Serbia
4. Bosnia
5. Albania

I think that Montenegro will be the next country to join the EU after Croatia.
