No one to date has been able to explain the benefits of Serbia joining the EU
(sj, 1 May 2013 13:25)

You can ask that question to the Serbs who want to join... I'm sure that Kosovo supports your crusade for not letting Serbia join the EU (regardless of whether there is any benefit for Serbia or not).

""Serbia should reject the agreement and thus clear the way for reaching the best possible solution. That agreement abolishes Serbia's statehood in Kosovo and Metohija," Mihailović said, adding that the referendum was not necessary - as the status of Kosovo-Metohija is defined by the Constitution of Serbia and UN SC Resolution 1244."

Kosovo's status is defined in accordance with UNSCR 1244; that is the Law in Kosovo. The Constitution of Serbia defines the status of Kosovo as much as it defines the status of Moon.

This is not a true image of Serbia, most people in Serbia want's to agree with Brussels agreement so, we in Serbia hope that Serbs in Kosovo also accept those terms for better future.

No one to date has been able to explain the benefits of Serbia joining the EU – look at Slovenia. All I get is the usual rambling of more trade, freedom move movement etc. Sadly that is all rubbish because the idea of the EU is for corporations that produce goods subsidised by Brussels then get dumped on a small market like Serbia so that the local farmer who earns say 250 Euros per month cannot compete even though his market may only be a couple of kilometres from the farm.
The reason why the US is in this stagnant position is because its stifled by a system that needs changing badly, but the elite don’t know how to do that and maintain control so you have more of the same. And with each year it becomes more and more blocked until one day it will just grind to a stop. You need a new constitution.

I usually in general agree with your comments but, I think you missed the boat with this one.
The Constitutional Court in Serbia is meaningless. remember they ruled that the dual salaries in Kosovo were in violation of the constitution but the govt at that time chose to ignore its ruling. So there is no way to compare it with the SCOTUS. So I doubt a ruling will make a huge difference.
While I think that Bush presidency was one of the biggest mistakes of the century in the US, I am not sure Gore would have been any better. But if was appropriate for the Supreme court to take on the case and settle with expediency.

I'm looking at second picture below with the 'southern Iber Serbs' with their pathetic placards...what percentage of the populatation do they actually make up in Vushtrri and Fushe Kosove to protest against the 'agreement' on their behalf? I'm thinking 00.02%? I can bet any of you that they're MUP paid agents or Serbian rednecks from remote villages riddled with incest and poverty.

Yeah, anyone who opposes the deal is a MUP agent/redneck/paedo/lizzard people.

Why don't these Serbs get a job, and look to the future. They keep wasting time mongering on fact that won't change just beacause they don't like it.

Live it with, move on, - don't like it move to the motherland!

That is what Hungarians had to do after Vojvodina became part of Serbia, those that didn't like it moved to Budapest, the rest stayed and now are Serbian-Hungarians.

Amer

If this ends up in court and the court rules that the agreement is unconstitutional, or parts of it are unconstitutional - then what? Without implementation, there will be no accession talks, the government resigns - and then what? Any ideas? How are the people who are basically ok with the agreement going to react when they learn that they are stuck with a constitution that will keep them out of the EU? Here in the U.S. the Supreme Court allowed itself to become involved in a political fight (Bush vs. Gore) and the result was, to put it mildly, disastrous.

Kosova Serbs are very reasonable and understand their place. The have totally embraced the border guards and customs agents they said they opposed but now that whole operation is very successful and has no problems. Serbs protect serbias border with kosova and Albanians collect customs from Serbs and it's exactly like the borders between every other countries in the world.

"If the Court is independent and impartial then its judgment is definitive. If it says that the deal is unconstitutional, then that is the end of the matter. If it says that it is constitutional, then the matter should be put to a referendum of the citizens of Serbia so that the matter can be finalised once and for all. "

That is funny, I would like you to go to the Constitutional Court with exactly that plan.

Dacic has already said something he cannot spin or take back. He has announced that Serbian government in Kosovo represent "parallel institutions" and can be shut down by pulling funding. He has threatened to do this. He has publicly declared that he supports Kosovo as an independent state and this is in violation of the Serbian constitution. He has also said that a referendum is not necessary if the Kosovo Serbs want a constitutional review. This is also true, but only if the courts decide that Dacic has violated the Serbian constitution. If they don't decide that he has violated the Serbian constitution, then the Kosovo Serbs deserve a referendum as a matter of law.

John

Now they don't want a referendum but the constitutional court? They must have realized that the majority in Serbia is not ready any more to suffer because of Kosovo.

David Crowley

Those unhappy with the Agreement should submit a request for an Opinion of the relevant Court (if necessary, in the process commencing an action against the Serbian Government challenging the legality of its actions in signing the deal). If the Court is independent and impartial then its judgment is definitive. If it says that the deal is unconstitutional, then that is the end of the matter. If it says that it is constitutional, then the matter should be put to a referendum of the citizens of Serbia so that the matter can be finalised once and for all.

The Serbs from south of the River Ibar should be represented in the talks with the Serbian Government.

The Kossovo Serbs are wasting their time in Belgrade. If they want to stick together than look to Banja Luka and Dodik. Sad to say but Serbia proper has turned its back on its most sacred ground, they will have to live with this thought! Go join with Republic of Srpska or stay within yourselves, Belgrade is not interested.

I believe that at the end of the day they will reach the agreement. Kosovo Serbs should realize that all of Serbia cannot be hostage of the Kosovo issue forever. It is time to move on.
