Federer was a great tennis player and he deserved all his title. Unfortunately, no one last forever. There are new kids Nadal, Djokovic, Murrey and Zonga. They will certainly dominate in years ahead. Federer is now just chasing records and he wants to retire as No.1 so people can remember him forever. That’s why he did put so much effort into his game to win Wimbledon again. Djokovic did not play his best tennis, so Federer had a chance to win. Murrey was better player in the final, but he lost self-belief towards the end of the match and unfortunately lost from Federer. Good luck all.

Nikolle/Aaay- In fact Federer has NEVER retired during a match. He pulled out between rounds once due to a bad back at the Paris Masters. As for giving up when it seems like too much effort, I think the French Open (two sets down to Del Potro in QF) and this Wimbledon (two sets down to Benneteau in round 3)suggest otherwise. Eight times in his career he has pulled back two set deficits and gone on to win. If anything, his recent problem has been losing from winning positions including at Wimbledon last year against Tsonga and at the US Open against Nole; both occasions from two sets up. The answer to the 'poster' who queried the ranking system is that after each tournament you 'drop' the points won from the previous year and replace them with those accumulated during the preceding week/fortnight. Nole was -1280 for Wimbledon and Fed was +1640, a total turnaround of 2920 points.Nole started the tournament with a lead of 2845 and now trails by 75. Worse still, Djokovic is defending 3600 in his next three tournaments; Canada, Cincinnati and the US Open whereas Federer is defending only 1000. So, even if Nole wins all three of these he could still lose ground should Federer better his performances from 2011. I hope that this clears it all up for you :-)

aaay,
That's the furthest thing from the truth.
Roger never gives up. True, he's not as athletic as Nadal or Djokovic. These days he has to work harder than in the past. For god's sake, he's almost 31 which is ancient for that line of work.

his grand slam record would suggest otherwise. at the risk of coming across as cynical, (cause i have no wish to bash djokovic) however, the Serb used to have a reputation for retiring from matches. roger has only ever given up once in his whole career. djokovic once retired because of a sore throat. sorry dude your analysis is fantasy

When I say Federer gives in, I don't mean he retires under fake pretext, I mean he doesn't make enough effort to win. Federer seems to feel comfortable only when he is way ahead of his partner, he doesn't like tought fight. I don't say it to belittle Federer as a tennis player or a human being, of course he is a tennis genius. I just describe his style as I see it.

fair enough that's your opinion. i on the other hand disagree, i doubt we'll see another talent like his in our life time. i also doubt that either djokovic or nadal will win a grand slam in their 30's

When Federer sees that a match is very energy-consuming, he doesn't fight, just gives in.

Federer is without doubt the greatest tennis player of all time. djokovic and nadal are indeed great players in their own right, but i always get the impression that they have to work a lot harder to achieve their success, whereas the Swiss does it without spending as much energy. the guy's a genius

Actually almost everyone was shocked by Fererer beating Djokovic, because he is a better player with less effort. Federer had to work very hard for that win.(The Semis).
