Everybody stay in your village and stop traveling. There is no place like home acording to Dorothy in "The Wizaed of Oz" and I wholeheartedly agree with Leonidas that the world is coming to an end since so many Greeks wont be able to borrow money from the Germans nymore at low interest rates in order to live in fancy villas with swimming pools default on the mortgage and blame the Nazis.

Are you calling the Germans stupid? If their banks didn't know the situation in Greece but still lent such huge sums then they should not be in business. If the banks did know and didn't give a damn, then where's this so called sensible financial head that germans keep on boasting about? They're just like everybody else, pigs at the trough.

But all these knee jerk reactions wont't do anything to solve Europe's problems. There is no way back, no recovery ,no fix,no resolution, no cure,We are on one way ticket to collapse and the way they will manage the crash will be by fascist violence and repression.People must protest, it is their duty, for the sake of their children. It is this serious.

Unfortunately there is more, as the EU has gone into another recession and the US is its largest trading partner, then the US will go deeper into an already terrible economic quagmire and living conditions will decrease for most people there. As this occurs the government will use these existing draconian laws passed to protect against terrorism to control any disturbances or threats to the regime. As the money has run out so has the time for protesting.
Even India and China have seen the writing on the wall and have for some time been quietly buying gold on the market to hold as reserves. The Russians started that about 2 years ago. As the Chinese say we live in interesting times.

Schengen is indeed another unworkable EU dream. Technically, it is not possible for the members, Switzerland included, to reimpose border controls.
While it is great for citizens going on holiday, it is also great for criminals and refugees.
Just more utopian EU politics.

The Albanian Lucianos also won't be able to move around freely practising their trades ie human and drugs trafficking, prostitution, racketeering, car
thefts, armed robberies to name a few.Europe certainly will be a better place.

Slowly the west will turn into a series of dictatorships.

You're so right sj.A good look at the ascendancy of the extreme right in various EU countries confirms future trends. The cancellation of the Schengen by Sarkozi is not just a reaction to attract the votes of the right in the next round of the French elections but also a confirmation that multicultural Europe is dead and buried.

Going down the road of totalitarianism has its landmarks starting with Julian Assange then upon instructions from the US the Uk established secret courts are to deal with "terror suspects". Habeas Corpus is dying. The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that five men can be extradited to the US even though none except one has been charged with a crime. We now have a police state that is consuming Western democracy. It’s what Norman Mailer called "pre-fascist".
The suspension of the Schengen treaty is only another step in choking the individual rights of people. Lots more to come and its not very nice either. Slowly the west will turn into a series of dictatorships.
