Candidate means nothing without a start date for accession talks - this was promised by the yellows of DyeS to all that EUSSR demands and what do they have but empty promises again.

Empty promises of jobs and growth is all that Tadic & Co have delivered over the last 4 years - while eroding Serbian territorial integrity and sovereignty for a title of candidature of a collapsing union!

Based on what I experience in Hungary every day - I am very pessimistic about Serbia's and Croatia's role in E.U. You better stay out of this trap. It is a national tragedy.

Hmm, someone must have been asleep whole last week. In principle, you are right, but Kosovo will not be represented as equal, but as Kosovo*, and not at international meetings, but regional ones. Furthermore, UNMIK can be present at these meetings, too.

Serbia would have obtained candidate status long ago if it had ceded Northern Kosovo together with its inhabitants long ago. Serbian diplomacy tried very hard to negotiate on reasonable compromise, but failed.

I am both surprised and disrespectful. This shows how much the eu fears Russia and no longer has confidence in the usa. Here is a partial list of nations that are not eu candidates after decades of sucking up to the west:
albania
montenegro
muslim-croat federation (of bosnia)

Note: I count the RS as an extension of Serbia.

As a reward to those Putin fearing european cowards, the Serbs should vote out tadic and his ds party this May.

You are going to be very disappointed if you think your EU booby prize will extend to Kosova as well. Were you asleep last Friday. Serbia must now face Kosova as an equal at all international meetings they attend. Be prepared to face much higher hurdles in the future, one of which will be to make war reparations to Kosova. Serbia will live to regret this fatal day as your peanut gallery made up of sj, winston, zoran, and company has been screaming out daily. It is now Serbia's time to be fitted with a very sturdy harness.

Meaningless. Belgrade will not start talks for at least a year and in that time will be expected to sit on its hands while Pristina with the backing of the usual suspects carries out a final assault on the remaining serbs in the north who refuse to be albanized.

'Rule of Law' is the biggest EU lie of them all as it is applied using old skool rules, i.e. at the whim of the big powers. Serbs and the remaining minorities will continue to have their basic human rights denied them with the approval of Washington, Paris, Berlin and London.

These next 15 years of concessions for Serbia are going to be a doozy. I predict that Croatia will actually be the least of their worries and negotiations will move well with them. Romania, Bulgaria, and little Slovenia will give Serbia a hard time and try to milk them for everything they can.
