Amer although I agre with your comment about the census figures of Kosovo there is something you wrote I find it hard to substansiate.

You mention demographic transition and point to Ireland and Asia as good examples. However, empirical evidence gathered over the past few decades from many countries suggests that a higher growth in population reduces economic growth of said country. This is particularly true in a country where existing unemployment is high and wages are low. As the population grows increasing the size of the workforce wages are become lower through excess supply. At the same time there is increasing strain on government social programs.

This type of thinking reminds me a little of the obsession with education. Education is of course a good thing and it can help, but education is of little use to a country when there are few jobs.

Its not great to be the bearer of bad tidings, but one must always have a realistic picture of what is going to happen.

where the number of working-age people is proportionately higher in the population than the number of elderly and children. It was when this happened in Asia and Ireland that they experienced their sudden economic booms - just Kosovo's luck that the world is in a slump right now, but they're well positioned to take advantage of any growth in world demand. It may be too early for the lifetime number of kids per woman to have been calculated on the basis of the 2011 statistics - the latest international figure had it at 2.4.
(Amer, 16 November 2011 21:51)

I have heard this arguments over and over again, mostly from Albanians but also from Palestinians.
But tell me, how does many children (born into poverty) and high nativity contribute to high living standards if one can't afford to feed them?

Just as the 11 child 30 year old Somali woman, 6 child albanian mother or 8 child Palestinian mother is never going to have any kind of high living standards, regardless if it is in Mogadishu, Pristina or Gaza City.

In all educated countries a family first make sure that they have adequate living conditions BEFORE putting children into this world, not as in the middle east, africa or Kosovo there they give birth to a child every year and then complain over their living standards.

(american- serb supporter, 16 November 2011 17:56) : "and kosovo has only 1.4 million total in the new census and albanians are 88% ..."

Where did you get your figures from?? According to the latest census, Kosovo has (without the Serbs who boycotted the census and emigres) a total of 1.73 million people living in Kosovo - they've experience a 10% growth since the last census in 1981. Over 90% of the population is ethnic Albanian. (These figure are as according to Wikipedia and various articles offered up by Google.) Kosovo is currently undergoing the "demographic transition," where the number of working-age people is proportionately higher in the population than the number of elderly and children. It was when this happened in Asia and Ireland that they experienced their sudden economic booms - just Kosovo's luck that the world is in a slump right now, but they're well positioned to take advantage of any growth in world demand. The birth rate for ethnic Serbs is falling, the birth rate of ethnic Albanians living in Presevo is increasing. The birth rate of Bosniaks in the Sandzak is increasing. NATO stopped the ethnic cleansing "solution" in 1999. It is clear that if the governments of the Republic of Serbia do not abandon ethnically-orientated policies and the dominance of the Orthodox church within state decision-making processes - in other words, if Kostunica's "Serbian Constitution" is not substituted for one modeled on EU values, then Serbia is going to lose more than Kosovo in the next decades.
(Artan, 16 November 2011 14:18) and where did you get that from when the albanians in preshovo valley decreased and thats why albanians never took the census because if they had more they would do the census in a heart beat. so keep dreaming and the population in the area used to be 60,000 and they say 40,000 and going down so wheres the increase and in belgrade there is no albanians left because they all moved out to kosovo and albania and macedonia so wheres your increase again?and kosovo has only 1.4 million total in the new census and albanians are 88% and not the 3 million you albanians used to say lived there.so wheres your increase? and in albania they are saying there is 3 million people but 35% of albania is none albania so that leaves you albanians there with 2 million so wheres your increase ?. in macedonia you albanians said you had 500,000 and now they say there is 300,000 so wheres your increase there ? is it because you gypsys are not making babies to suffer and getting smarter i hope so ,dont bring kids in the world to make suffer because god will punish you more. so the decrease in your population is smart because you only bring kids in the world that you could take care of and not becase of politics ,you have money and shelter and a future for the child then you bring them in and not to have to beg and suffer in the streets.

this is not true
read the latest statistics... all of Europe including Albania is in decline... Albania is currently at 2.01... 2.1 is required for pop. growth.
albania was at 2.8 just 10 yrs ago(probably why most ppl think its still increasing)... now at 2.01 huge decline probably largest in Europe.
even Kosovos own statistics was a disaster with everyone claiming the province had over 2 mil and some as high as 2.5.
it recorded 1.7 with the diaspora included.

in bosnia the Serbian population is estimated to have increased to 37% of the population from 34%(mostly due to refugees from krajna and decrease in muslem/croat birthrates/emigration)
