When the EU falls..Europe rises.

The world doesn't revolve around Europe so if she falls nothing will happen.

Ash is confusing two things. On the one side there is an Europe that is gradually making it easier to study, work and live and different countries and to move around. This is also about standardization, globalization and advantages of scale. This Europe is in line with our times and will very likely continue no matter what happens.

On the other hand there is the powerhungry Brussels bureaucracy. Under the slogan of "free trade" it emits guidelines whose only purpose is to undermine the power of the memberstates. It has allowed countries in the euro project that couldn't keep their currencies connected when they still were in the "snake". It still obligates all new members to come in the euro zone as asoon as possible allthough everyone knows that that is economically dangerous. It provides for all problems the same solution: more power to Brussels. This brureaucracy is incapable of admitting that it made a mistake and of making a tactical retreat.

Europe needs to make a tactical retreat. And please fire all those Brussels officials who preach that the end of times is near when we do so. We need visionaries; not power hungry zombies whose only goal is a United States of Europe where all power is in Brussels.

Are European perspective and EU membership the same? In my opinion the answer is no, being pro-European is not the same than pro-EU. Despite high flown principles EU is a confederation of states, it has puppet parliament and huge bureacracy to implement its core function as distributor of agricultural funds (still some 40 % of whole EU-budget) So from point of wannabe members is there any sence to join EU, are benefits from joining to EU bigger or less than being outside it, is there any alternative strategic alliances to EU? I think that EU should return to its basic idea where people, goods and services could move more freely. EU could serve also as discussion forum related to external relations, it could include free trade agreements, visa waivers, financial aid and development cooperation in and outside EU; all this without EU parliaments, EU Commissions and overpopulated EU Agencies. With these tasks EU indeed could include all willing European states and maybe some neighbours too.

Hi your abviously one of the religously brainwashed by the looks of it who are destroying Free,democratic Serbia with their poison.
As for if the EU might fall,for Serbia it would be better in the long run.Being part of an unfair,biased,innefective and unequal union would be a total prison for us.Besides they will never accept us due to our stance on the issue of Kosovo as well as other factorsn 'ie Russia"Anyway you dont need an EU to keep Europe peacefull and Stable.Wars are created by major powers utilizing geotrategic situation to their own ends.The EU is essentially a playing field for major western powers.Sorry for all those Europhilles to take it so hard but as someone who studies geostrategy,its what the EU is all about.Serbia and other yugoslav countries have to forge their own path in the end,its eventually the best option.

The Euro was a bad idea from the beginning since different European countries have different economic problems which require a variety of financial instruments which a single currency can not offer. What do we have now? A situation where corrupt Southern European economies need to be bailed out by countries that have fiscal discipline. Per capita, Luxemburg and the Netherlands have to pay the most in order to finance the European bail out fund. Nothing that the people in these countries can do about since it is pushed down our throats. All this so that in Greece and other countries they can continue with their corrupt ways.
They call this "European solidarity". Oh yeah? Where was European solidarity with Greece frauded their budgets, when Greek taxi drivers did't put the meter on, when the Greek did't pay taxes, etc. Same for other countries that are corrupt to the bone and don't have fiscal discipline.
That is why Europe is divided. Solidarity stops the moment one cheats the other. There is no longer a sense of a common European destiny among its citizens, not in the framework of the EU at least. The EU itself is to blame for that by firstly imposing a single currency and secondly by not demanding and enforcing fiscal discipline among its members (also France and Germany). Now the Euro is under attack from the Anglo-Saxons that want the Dollar restored as the dominant world currency. The potential fall of the EU is to blame on the EU itself, not it citizens.
