Serbia should have invested in dialog in the 1990s, that's when the time was ripe for discussions and compromises. Instead it chose to use force and commit war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Wort of all, for Serbia, it lost all the wars it started. Now the time for dialog has passed. Serbia need to accept reality and recognize Kosovo's independence and stop using Serb minorities living in neighboring countries to interfere in their internal affairs. Serbia need to once and for all let go of the policies of the recent past that have brought nothing but misery and death to the region. The choice is clear: let go of the policies of the past and move forwards towards improved relations with its neighbors and inclusion into Euro-Atlantic institutions or stay loyal to the failed policies of the past and lose more in the long term. It's time for the Serbian people to decide which path they want to chose. As the saying goes "wishes don't wash dishes", Serbia can not replace reality-based politics, diplomacy, and economics with myths, fantasies, and unrealizable demands.

Good comment, Jurgen. However, I find Croatia's past similarly problematic. There's one difference though: The country's already two steps further than Serbia. But is this far enough?

Better late than never: Dialogue is indeed the keyword.

Unfortunately, for many people of former Yugoslavia, Albanians were little more than the people who own the ice cream parlors.

"The date of the negotiations is needed to give strategic direction to Serbia and to all investors, including those from Germany," Đelić said.

Let's not forget the thousands of Serbs living in Europe and especially Germany and Austria that send millions of Euro's back home to their families. Economically Serbia needs good relations with Germany and the EU. Unfortunately political and economical goodwill is hard to generate when it comes to Serbia because of the documented atrocities they perpetrated in the Balkans throughout the 90's and the large scale public denial of war crimes committed against non-Serb populations. Until Serbia comes to grips with it's past and normalizes relations with neighboring countries, it will be a tough sell even initiating their entry into the EU or NATO.

Serbia is not ready to be black mailed? How about you stop black mailing Kosovo and trying to get north just to save face. EU and USA are tiered of Serbias games and Serbian EGO. Yugoslavia is dead and no one likes to treat you as special any more sorry and wake up.

Milosevic did not dream big Sebia on its own but majority did back him just now they all say it was him.

Big reason why Kosovo is issue is that Serbs there are used to rule majority and they have not changed the attitude 60K Serbs are thoroughgoing a tantrum but now they will get to calm down and apply for Kosovo passport but they can also have Serbian one just like RS Serbs dual Citizenship is applicable.

During negotiations Serbian delegation kept using the situation in north as a bargaining chip now the situation is on even foot lets see how good the negotiations will move forward.

"but at the same time (Serbia) expects the same treatment as other countries from Europe".

The problem is that Serbia is not the same as any other EU member state. No other European capital boasts a mass grave location less than 11 years old - the "anti-terrorist police" (SAJ) base at Batajnica, where the bodies of hundreds of Kosovo civilians were recovered in 2001. No Serbian court has ever prosecuted a senior Serbian policeman for this crime. No other European capital harbours such a distasteful legacy which explains both historical and current reasons as to why Kosovo declared its independence with the support of leading EU member states. There are so many different issues that prevent Serbia being treated "as other countries in Europe" but most of them are tied to behaviour and attitudes towards Kosovo.
