Congratulations to South Sudan. Nothing can be compared to Kosovo, since Kosovo is "sui generis". I suspect soon we will have a new state "supporting" Serbia.

But you conveniently overlooked the referendum on secession that took place across all of Sudan which did not take place in Serbia. If Khartoum recognizes the election outcome, I doubt the emerging southern Sudanese state will be in as difficult position to get international recognition and support as Kosovo has. If that's the case, then no, it is in a far better position than Kosovo.

No Mike, the voting did not take place across all of Sudan, because if it did, they will not have received 99% pro independence. The voting took place in south sudan only and the will of the people spoke through the vote.

Congratulations. Could be an example for Kosovo - especially northern Kosovo!

Curious as to your comment, as someone totally opposed to Kosovo independence. Or do you mean Kosovo should have waited until after 20 years of war to declare?
Also, I do not think North Kosovo wants independence, they just want to remain part of Serbia, which although I do not support, I also do not oppose.
But seriously why would you support S Sudan and not Kosovo (other than being Serbian) especially seeing that it is creating a new country that is severely economically depressed and cannot succeed without vast international support, all the traits you taunt the citizens of Kosovo on.

This is not enough. All over Africa western colonial jerks divided peoples and made countries so that they would fail on purpose. Stop the arbitrary boundaries, and lets have real boundaries.

At others commentators - Sudan and Kosovo are not comparable. The Serbs have been faced with a cultural genocide. In Sudan yeah, things have been rough, but people did not vanish, as the Serbs have in much of Kosovo and Metohija.

-- If you mean an emerging impoverished failed state, then yes. But you conveniently overlooked the referendum on secession that took place across all of Sudan which did not take place in Serbia. The elections in Sudan are a commendable example of African democracy.
There could still be troubles ahead after the separation which should be solved in a civilized way.
I wish both these countries peace and prosperity, and hope the troubles of the past are now over.

Congratulations to the new country. And well done by Sudan's government to get over it and promise to recognise the result of popular choice. Best way for the two emerging states to get on, have a good relationship, for both peoples to benefit, not like some oppressor- or former oppressor- states.
