BIRN: Croat prisoners were held in Niš

Of course Croatian soliders were held as prisioners in a time of war that is why the term of prisoner of war exists.they were imprisioned not murdered, just held as captured soldiers.
unlike serbs held in croatian camps such as camp Lora and others camps that were tortured in the most vile and sadistic manner and murdered. so to be held in a prision and to be killed are two very very very different things.

Hey, wait a minute. Wasn't the JNA neutral? Surely there must have been Serbs and Montenegrins taken prisoner by the JNA and used for exchange, too. Where are those camps?

Unfortunately Yugoslavia was in a civil war and the JNA was the main target by the Croatians and later Bosniaks. Its barracks were surrounded ,officers were murdered, etc. The largest war crime against the JNA occured in Sarejevo where close to 100 JNA officers were murdered by the Bosnians in order to relased Izetbegovic who was under arrest.

Many JNA officers and soldiers were murdered in Slovenia as they tried to seize the borders and were under strict orders not to fire their weapons. Keep in mind many of the JNA soldiers that died in Slovenia were Slovenians.

This explains why the argument that somehow Serbia started the war is completely false. It was the Croatians and Slovenians police and militia who began the civil strife by surrounding JNA barracks and compounds.
