Sorry for continuing on a subject which is totally out of the topic of the article, but after reading the comments i felt forced to do it. According to the following link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albanian_immigrants_in_Greece, you can see that the number of albanian immigrants in Greece is around 460 thousand, which is still a big number, but it is far from being 1.5 million.
Please try to be a bit serious.

PS: And believe me: If Greece didn't have the 1,5 million Albanian immigrants to have free (and extremely expensive) healthcare and education in Greece, and sending all the money they earn in Greece back to Albania, probably the Greek public dept would be much lower. The Albanian economy is being feed by Greece, and the Albanians are physically being feed by Greece. So, don't bite the "hand" that feeds you. Throw your poison elsewhere.

(The Greek, 31 May 2010 21:23)

Oh please, please please you as a Greek must be the last one to complain about this.

Albanian immigrants have bankrrolled your pension plans for years now as the aging Greek population can't fund it, Alb-immigrant social security money that they will never get have funded most of your healthcare and social services, their savings have funded your banks, their productivity is 40% higher than Greeks, and they have worked like animals 2-3 jobs, all this amongst discrimination and hate from greeks .... while they enjoyed the billions received from the west, by dancing in buzuqis and drinking Uzo.

Who are you kidding! If there is a nation who has no merit in their well-being, that is Greece. Do you really think that Greece prospered by selling lemons and oranges?

Just enjoy the money they give you, and don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Several posters have responded to one PRN. He is clearly a troll who is only trying to wind you up. Why do you let him? Ignore him and he might actually go away (because I doubt whether he believes in the garbage he spurts out here and if he does, all the more reason to ignore him).

It is people’s own right to voice their denomination , atheism or paganism. As far as I know most Albanians worship Alah ,therefore they are Muslims. As for the mosques and churches in Kosovo, their real number cannot be estimated because lots of them were razed ,demolished. But if we review history books by various authors, we find irrefutable facts that the temples in Kosovo are Serbian orthodox churches built by Serbian rulers in the Middle Ages. There are also Catholic churches built by Albanians
and Venice and Greeks. The fact is that a lots of Albanians are of the descendants of Serbs who didn’t join the large migration to Austrian territory in 1690 guided by Patriarch Charnojevic, because of the plague in the territorry nearby. Do not be nonplussed and disconcerted by this statement, for there are a lot of Albanians who became Serbs or intermingled with Serbs through centuries.

why would anyone want serbia in the EU?

They are russian lackeys...bought and paid for as they sold their energy future off to russia to become its glorified gas station to the west. They will never truly act in European interests so long as they are terrified of losing the rented "freindship" they have of russia. serbia will essentially become russias voice in the eu.

it is simply inviting a snake in the grass. serbian politics run counter to europe in so many ways..especially because of kosovo.

serbia will have to choose.

it is an endless source of fascination that serbia thinks it can join the EU so long as it insists on its kosovo delusion.

You all realise that this speculation (and that is all it is) came from a Serbian newspaper. It's call sensationlist journalism - a newspaper or magazine writes something that is half baked and more or less untrue but will shock people purely to profit from it.

Wake up and realise that there is no truth to this other than in the heads of thos with precondition anti-German, anti-West, anti-Eu etc views.

But we are concerned with Kosovo here not Albania.
What are the statistics in Kosovo? How many new mosques have sprung up there built with Saudi money?
How many churches were burned down instead of protected?
Don't compare apples with oranges in the future.

(adrian/bucharest, 31 May 2010 20:17) You need a better translation then the priests use to confuse the people. Pretentiousness of theirs that they have the key to heaven so you better listen to their self serving confusing gibberish. Ecc 1:8 All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. Ecc 1:9 What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Ecc 1:10 Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. Any ways Adrian it is the same message of the same coin ,of Déjà vu. Of people never learning making the same mistakes over & lets not forget the cheerful-end. Ecc 1:17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind. Ecc 1:18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief. Looks like he was advocating ignorance is bliss. Then again he was a politician of advocating the pulling of the wool over the eyes of his sheep subjects. As they were to be led of to be sheared then slaughtered.

Is there anybody who can blame Germany for that stance after the Greek fake-and-steal disaster? Fulfill the criteria and you will be welcomed. If you don't (hallo Cyprus) then bare the consequences, or be honest to your own people and explain why you will not join under current circumstances.
(MB, 31 May 2010 14:31)

I would please Greek-hating Albanians like MB, to be a little more careful in their comments. There is no "fake and steal" when we have to do with countries. Greece has a very big public dept, like many other EU member states, like Spain, Italy and UK (which has even higher). And Greece has used the very same logistic tactics to "calculate" its dept, like many other EU member states have been doing for years incuding Spain, Italy and mainly France. The whole point was that Greece was targeted to devaluate the Euro, a thing that could have happened to the above countries too. Greece was just the "weakest link" to be hit, among many other "weak links" inside the EU.

So if Germany had to "punish" Greece for not "fulifiling the criteria" then it would have to punish UK for having a public dept about 113% of their GDP (higher than Greece) or Italy for having a public dept of about 1,5 trillion Euros and 115% of their GDP (one of the highest in the world and much higher than Greece). The above countries also don't "fulfil" the criteria, and they have worse numbers than Greece. The whole EU just don't "fulfil the criteria" apart from Germany and some Northern EU member states, and Germany should have said that to its people and the whole world.

PS: And believe me: If Greece didn't have the 1,5 million Albanian immigrants to have free (and extremely expensive) healthcare and education in Greece, and sending all the money they earn in Greece back to Albania, probably the Greek public dept would be much lower. It disgusts me when serbs say muslim to Albanians. Is my first time coming in this site and let me tell you that Albania is mostly Atheist.
The statistics that specify 70% muslims and 30% christians are from Zogu's time. The new religion statistics will begin in 2011 and the serbian propaganda full of hate Against Albanians based in religion will be definitely destroyed.
In Albania mostly are atheists and after are christians. In Albania are 4 times more churches than mosques.

Lenard, I'd go more with:
"The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. "
Ecclesiastes 1:9,10

Germany had (kind of) the same attitude towards Romania too, though not on the merrits, but on procedure and conditions. In the end, after "securing the eastern border of EU" with "such a proffesional company" as EADS, buying Gepard anti-aircraft systems, setting Mercedes as the standard bus for Bucharest public transport and Desiro (Siemens) as standard local commuter, Romania set the clear date for membership with Mr Gunther Verhaugen as enlargement comissioner.
Nr. 1 thing on Germany's list is: export. In this respect pls also see the story of today with Kohler's resignation.
Of course, they are really grumpy these days and, in my opinion, this time for a good reason.

You pour souls if you only knew what the EU is morphing in to then again you would not believe it or want to. For you seeing is believing when that happens it will be much to late may God have mercy on your souls. Mat24:21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now-and never to be equaled again. Mat24:22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. Of course they will be needing peoples to blame and persecute any volunteers. WW2 was horrendous but it will look very minor to what is coming will be truly unbelievable in comparison.

MB, Ireland,

I hear you. I have also been saying for years that Germany has not changed at all, except it has now learned better marketing. The anti-Serb actions of Germany in the Balkans are dispicable. They have helped all of their former allies, and have done everything in their power, quietly and behind the scenes, to try once again to destroy Serbia. Germans never forget who their slavish friends are - Croats, Albanians, Bosnian Muslims - and will never forget who the rock in their throat is, who helped destroy the Austro-Hungarian empire and the Third Reich - Serbia!
There are many naive Serbs out there who think Germany is now their friend. These people have blinders on instead of looking at Germany's actions throughout history and over the last 20 years.
Let me spell it out for you people, and you know who you are: Germany wants a weak Serbia, very weak, and split into little parts, so that we can never be a problem for them again in the future. Serbs are free an independent people, and they know it, and we don't take orders from anyone. This is a problem for Germany, and it sets a 'bad example' to other lackie countries in the region. Thus, they want Serbia destroyed. Why do you think they bullied the rest of Europe into recognizing Croatia and Slovenia so quickly? Why do you think they bullied most of Europe into recognizing the fake/illegal/immoral 'state' of Kosovo? Why are Serbs the only people in ex-Yugoslavia who have not been given the right to self-determination like all otehrs? Why is Germany not pushing for independence of Republika Srpska the way they did with Kosovo?
Germans will never be Serbia's friends, we are in their way! Let's always be in their way.
Cheers!!

Wishing the Serbian Govt would just apply as much if not more energy into getting EU companies to see the advantage investing in a country “next door” without the overly bureaucratic rules and regulations handcuffing them. Give them a low company tax incentive in exchange for employment, give them access to tariff free new markets, show them cheaper logistics to work with, apply laws guaranteeing reasonable protection to these manufacturers and in a shorter period of time in comparison to EU membership Serbia will have moved further. Market Serbia as a great place to headquarter your company, instead of squandering $$$ marketing Serbian EU credentials. Entice and give Serbia’s most important resource the educated youth that left in the 90’s something to return too. Just seems like the government has put all its eggs in one basket on this one.

Is there anybody who can blame Germany for that stance after the Greek fake-and-steal disaster? The German politicians were already under very high pressure from their voters and it is more than understandable that they have no confidence it what is issued by Athens and Co. Greece will never ever be capable to repay its debt. That is already saif by many experts. The reason why Germany had to intervene was merely to protect its own currency.

After that disaster, it is only natural that Germans will be among the most reluctant to accept new EU members. However, we are talking about EU and not Euro membership. The criteria are quite clear. And as mentioned by the German ambassador they haven't changed the last 15 years. What will be different is the (stupid) acceptance of unsolved issues. You can be sure that no 2nd Cypruss will be allowed to join EU. What that means should be even Jeremic clear, even when we pretend/threats with "even more instability". Fulfill the criteria and spare us from your acting abilities. You will not approval by whining. Fulfill the criteria and you will be welcomed. If you don't (hallo Cyprus) then bare the consequences, or be honest to your own people and explain why you will not join under current circumstances.

"No troublemakers with blood in the hands can join in EU." And this is why Albania won't. You MIGHT have half a chance of joining if you all convert from Islam to Christianity, but if you don't then you'll never be allowed to join, just like Turkey. The only club you'll be joining is the "Turkey Appreciation Society". It's you're best and ONLY hope. You have nothing to offer Europe, quite the opposite - If you've ever set foot in Europe you'd notice the fast rising anti-islam tide of sentiment, and this is only going to get worse with the financial crisis. You can bury your head in the sand and delude yourself about EU membership, but it just ain't gonna happen. Don't take my word for it, take the Pope's! Albania and Albanians as a people have no future in Europe. Nobody wants you there. They say they do but they don't, just like they do with Turkey. In the late 1980s Germany planned, connived and manipulated Western Governments to achieve the situation where Slovenia and Croatia would be rewarded with EU membership. There is no EU enlargement anymore. No Turkey, no Croatia, no Albania, no Serbia, noone. Not even monetary union for Bulgaria and Romania that was set to take place and was on schedule. Even the current EU members will not adopt the Euro.

And that is so, until they make clear, how the EU is going to move on to the future, and what is going to be actually. Some of the Europeans want real political union, and some others just some weak economic union. And no European at all wants to pay, for either one or the other. So there is a big debate right now, about the actual future of that organization. Because, no matter that it started in order to be something more than that, this is what it actually is right now.... nothing more.

As a EU opponent I couldn't be happier if Serbia is left out. The EU is no guarantor for economic development. Two of the richest countries on earth (Switzerland and Norway) are not members of the EU. Being a member is only a psychological feeling of not being left out. It has no real purpose. Look at Rumania, Bulgaria, Greece and Portugal. They are suffeing even though they are members. Its up to the people themselves do make their lives better and their country successful and not rely on someone else to do the job for you. With greater powers comes greater responsibility. Joining EU will meen that Brussels will more or less be in control of our country.
Besides, if Serbia is not accepted into the EU then there can be no more pressure that is recognizes Kosovo.

PRN - "ONLY Iceland, Croatia and US of Albania will be allowed in." Half correct. Iceland and Croatia will get into the EU, Albania won't.

The West has what it wants from you - NATO membership, and more poor souls to use as cannon fodder and more countries to sell weapons to. You'll be permanently impoverished. You have a very bleak future ahead. you might as well move back to where you all originated from - Iran. You might at least get a warm welcome there!

Cheers!!

'Germany doesn’t want Serbia in EU?' - Blic.

I am blue in the face from writing about this for years on this comment page.
In the late 1980s Germany planned, connived and manipulated Western Governments to achieve the situation where Slovenia and Croatia would be rewarded with EU membership. The Albanians and Bosnian muslims were also to be looked after at the expense of the Serbs who the Germans have despised for ages.
Germany also covertly and cleverly got the Dutch and Austrians to do a lot of their dirty work for them.

It disgusts me to see the Germans 'at it again' and nobody is shouting stop.

My opinion is that Serbia doesn't belong in the EU while the EU will struggle to survive over the next decades. Croatia belongs there with their Catholic brothers but I think the Orthodox world needs to stay out. Romania and Bulgaria need to experience first hand that nothing will come of the EU and they can then exit when the feast starts in the East. The EU perspective of this government is flawed. I think lots of people already sense the European Union will die just like the Soviet Union.
